In the Forests of the Night | Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

Pickpick

Began fallowing Amelia Atwater-Rhodes from the author's first book.

Discovered way back when Target devoted a huge portion of the stores to books, music, & DVDs (oh, those were the days, 🤔, although not really that long ago 😂).

When I leaned the author was only a couple of years older than me, I became an immediate fan.

Since it has been years, I cannot give this a indepth review, yet this book & author will always remain among my favorites.

DaveGreen7777 I can so relate to your comment about when Target sold books, CDs, and DVDs! I still lament the loss of my local Borders bookstore that sold all three! 😭 2w
AnnCrystal @DaveGreen7777 Oh, Borders!! I spent hours upon hours there as a teenager...they even sold magazines...🥲that was a magical store📚! (edited) 2w
AnnCrystal @DaveGreen7777 did you ever shop at Fry's? They didn't sell books (only movies, music, magazines). WOW, they were a place of fantasy. Every store was fashioned after a theme. Alice In Wonderland, space, etc. Oh, I miss them too! 2w
DaveGreen7777 @AnnCrystal Oh, I‘m not familiar with Fry‘s, but it sounds amazing. I live in the Northeast, and we had Newbury Comics, which was similar. No novels, but they sold comic books and magazines, as well as CDs, DVDs, and collectibles. They didn‘t do cool things like fashion their stores after a theme, though. ☹️ 2w
AnnCrystal @DaveGreen7777 any book/comic/movie/music store is a rarity these days. Actually, I haven't been to an actual bookstore in years...I know, shame on me👀! (edited) 2w

I was thinking about the movie version of this with David Bowie, and decided I needed to read the book. I will say Whitley Streiber is a great author. His writing style works for me. His depiction of the vampire Miriam is wonderful, both her loving side and her evil side. The fate of her consorts is one of the more chilling parts of the book.

I've always been very easily scared, particularly of #vampires but still I loved the comic “I, Vampire“ as a teen. This was my favorite story.

This book didn't know what it was or what it wanted to focus on. Was it a paranormal romance? Was it a thriller? Was it a cosy mystery? Who knows!

There were a lot of tonal changes which made the book disjointed. It needed to be shorter and the plot tighter. There was a lot of unnecessary repetition which bogged everything down.
