This article pits Mr. Darcy against Little Women's Professor Bhaer for Best Romantic Hero. The author argues that the prof's ongoing kindness beats Darcy's #VillainRedemption arc any day! I'd love to hear from you, #PemberLittens! First, does Darcy fit this trope? Second, though I think I know, which guy would YOU choose in the battle of Fitzwilliam vs Friedrich? #TropesInAugust
@Klou

Palimpsest Great article,thanks for sharing. I like professor Baer, especially in the newest version of Little Women, but a lot has to do that the actor was younger than in the book. I know it was more common for younger women to marry older, but from my perspective now, no thanks. The first Pride and Prejudice I saw was the 2005 version and I love Macfadyen because he is who I first saw as Darcy. And I ♥️the ending of it even though it‘s not in the book. 4y
Andrea313 @Palimpsest I appreciate your perspective! I agree with you on feeling put off by large age differences; Marianne and Brandon in Sense & Sensibility, and even Emma and Knightley are so, so bad! I somehow feel a little better about Jo since she was in her 20s and already supporting herself- not a literal teenager like Marianne! But I agree that the portrayal of the Professor as closer to Jo in age in this most recent LW adaptation was a lot better! 4y
slategreyskies I love them both! I‘m not sure I could choose between them. :) 4y

Andrea313 @slategreyskies SAME!!! I love them both for different reasons. ❤️ 4y
sprainedbrain I will never ever EVER be ok with Jo‘s marriage. Great article, but I‘m definitely team Fitzwilliam here. 😂 4y
Andrea313 @sprainedbrain Wow, not even a little? Not even to appreciate Louisa May Alcott's delicious spite?! I have to admit that when it comes to Little Women, I'm Team Bhaer, but when compared to Darcy? Too tough to call! 4y
sprainedbrain I‘ve tried to appreciate it for the spite, but I can‘t do it. 😂 4y
Andrea313 @sprainedbrain Totally respect it. 🤣 4y
Klou Very good! 👍 4y
EclecticBookLover @aroc this looks like an interesting article! 4y

Pickpick

Italo Calvino defined a classic as “a book that has never finished saying what it has to say “. Certainly Crime and Punishment fits this with its provocative ideas that are as relevant today as they were in 1866. The novel is an existential exploration of morality and amorality and how these are not fixed values, but determined by culture. The reader has room to draw their own conclusions about right & wrong. #tropesinaugust #villainredemption

Buechersuechtling Thanks for this review that might make me want to read it even though I failed on Dostojewski before _in_case_ I run into an audiobook edition of this. 4y
Ruthiella @Buechersuechtling You‘re welcome. It isn‘t always an easy book to read but I felt it was worth the challenge ultimately. 4y
