I‘ve never read Franzen. (embarrassing, yes 🙈)
I‘ve heard both referred to as the great modern American novel.
Which do you recommend I read first?
#thecorrections or #freedom ???
#helpmechose #whichfranzenfirst #literaryfiction
TheBookStacker I‘ve only read Freedom which I enjoyed. 6y
zsuzsanna_reads I'm interested in the answer too, I haven't read them either! 6y
CarolynM I bailed on The Corrections at the page 100 threshold. I just didn't care about the characters and wasn't interested in the story. 6y

Bklover I bailed on Freedom. Haven‘t tried anything else 6y
LauraJ Not embarrassing. I‘ve been less than impressed. 6y
gradcat I read both, loved both...so I guess that makes these books #marmite! I‘m so proud of myself—I learned the marmite reference from Littens!! (edited) 6y
Silvertongue I just read The Corrections last month but it was pretty painful to get through—nearly all the characters are exquisitely terrible people. Which I guess is the point of the book? Still working on the meaning of the book~ I thought about not finishing but it was a rec from a good friend. 6y
JacqMac I hated The Corrections so much. I wish I had bailed. Don‘t be embarrassed. 6y
Blaire I liked both, but I read the corrections ages ago (when it first came out 2001?). I‘d prob read it first. I don‘t mind unlikeable characters. 6y
Creadnorthey Corrections is exquisite- no matter the difficult characters. I took this family drama with a loving dose of black humor. 6y
JLaurenceCohen You aren't alone--I still haven't read him either 6y
