The River at Night | Erica Ferencik
Pickpick

Thrilling and quick read. Wrestling between Pick and So-So - going with Pick for what it is. What I liked is the writer didn‘t try to shock for the sake of being shocking - there was more nuance and restraint than others in this genre often have, and good exploration of the dynamics of long-term female friendships. Reinforced why I don‘t camp!

Pickpick

The most compelling book I‘ve read in a long time, and it has the most beautiful prose. Love the way Death is brought in as a proper character throughout. I gained a deeper appreciation for the richness of life in Syria pre-conflict, and for the difficulties of the immigrant experience...not to mention the challenges of being gay in an unwelcoming setting.
