The River at Night- fun thriller - read this in one hunk.
The Secret History - I loved this book. It gave me everything I wanted in a book.

Good month! Two nonfiction, one middle grade, one adventure fiction, four mystery/thrillers. All very good. #OctoberStats
Halfway thru the month and only 4 read. And I needed 3 free spaces! Need to buckle down! #BookSpinBingo
Four women go on a white water rafting trip on a remote Maine river. Things go badly quickly and they must fight to survive. I liked the first half more than the second, where things became a bit repetitive. I think this one suffered a bit from me comparing it to Heller's The River, which has a similar premise but keeps the storytelling tighter. Regardless, a very enthralling and terrifying read.
So this is a story about four women roughly my age who go whitewater rafting in a place they've never been, with a guide they aren't sure of, and what happens. Spoiler alert: not good, but not for the reasons you might expect. This one touches on the primal emotions of "fear of woods" as well as "fear of the stranger". It's a good one.
#weekendbookhaul from the thrift store which HAD A SALE ON Y'ALL I paid 4.50 for these so I added 10.00 for a donation. It's not much but it's what I can afford, I've budgeted 20.00 for books this month. 💕 #bookhaul #tbr

The first 3/4 of this book were tense and thrilling and full of unexpected twists. But the last part felt a little like the author realized her deadline was quickly approaching and had to hurry up and throw together an ending. And the story's climax would have been more exciting if the villain's ability to track down and keep up with the protagonists hadn't been quite so difficult to believe.
THE DETAILS ⤏ RIVER-RAFTING ADVENTURE ⤏ GONE WRONG...WAY WRONG ⤏ SINGLE POV ⤏ I THINK I HEAR A BANJO PLAYING... ⤏ SOMEWHAT HORROR-IF-IC
MY REVIEW IN ONE SENTENCE⤏ The River At Night has top-notch action (once it gets going anyway), a Deliverance-themed storyline, and...unfortunately, not so likable characters.

Thrilling and quick read. Wrestling between Pick and So-So - going with Pick for what it is. What I liked is the writer didn‘t try to shock for the sake of being shocking - there was more nuance and restraint than others in this genre often have, and good exploration of the dynamics of long-term female friendships. Reinforced why I don‘t camp!
Still unsure how I feel about this book. It was non stop action and had some creepy elements which kept me on the edge of my seat. I did not always like the main character but I did like the real way she portrayed women's friendships. Would be a great beach or airplane read.

(Day 6 - #LetsGetLost)
*Talk about wandering far afield...the type of “lost” these ladies experience is most definitely not the kind of lost that the song intends. However, this kind of “lost might be very interesting to read. I haven‘t read this, but I‘m considering it...have any of you read it?

just “meh” about this one. i guess i‘m just jaded when it comes to thrillers, but... well, i guess i *did* finish it!
This is more of an action packed thriller, rather than a phycological thriller which is my usual cup of tea. It‘s a good read, but if you‘re like me and prefer a good whodunnit, it‘s probably not the best choice.
This book fell flat for me. The story started off slow and while it picked up when the ladies were on the river, it just didn‘t have that thrill factor I was looking for. I didn‘t connect with any of the characters and found the ending to be a bit of a let down.
Wow. That‘s my impression of this novel after finishing it. I‘ve had this book for awhile and just got around to reading it. This book was a great survival story. It had its share of heartbreak and at times it just ripped me apart. It was such a great read and I wish I had read it sooner!
Didn't love the writting in the beginning, but once they got going on the river I was hooked.
Oh my goodness. This is seriously insanely one of the nicest things ever. Thank you so much for the amazing book mail and treats, my new friend from afar! This was beyond kind and thoughtful. I can‘t wait to dig into all of this and will keep in touch with you for sure @Cinfhen I truly love this community and all the purely genuine and selfless things that people on Litsy consistently do. What a bright day this has become for me!
#DNF Great opener but I couldn‘t get behind the story once the random, hillbilly family was introduced.
Has anyone read this one?
Went a little overboard with @halfpricebooks memorial day sale.

I love the days that end with choosing a new title to cozy up with.
Having a hard time deciding between these two.🤔
Help me decide. Which would you choose? 🙂
I've chosen my line up for March. Here's hoping I can get through them all this month. 😊📚🤞

TBR Looking forward to this book.
Has anyone read it yet? 😊

#FierceFeb #GirlsJustWantToHaveFun A group of girlfriends agree to up the vacation ante and ditch margaritas and sandy beaches for life vests and water shoes. They set out for a weekend of extreme white water rafting but problems quickly arise before they even step foot in the raft. Good as a palette cleanser between heavier reads.
This was an OK suspense novel (it would probably make a decent movie), but I expected something more. The friendship between the women wasn‘t very convincing, especially when it came to Rachel...
This book was kind of slow at first. But man oh man, when the twist started they didn't stop coming. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Nope, this one didn‘t work for me. I wanted to love it, but stereotypes for characters and a total lack of scares didn‘t make for good reading.

I finished this one this morning while shelving at work. I enjoyed it. It kept me interested. I did expect more to happen, but I was happy with the outcome. I was happy the reader didn‘t butcher the towns in Maine, but then again they didn‘t say those names that do get pronounced wrong.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Now that 2017 reading challenge is *almost* finished, which one one of the books I bought this year but didn‘t read should I start with on Jan 1? Also, who else *lives* for the best-of and most-anticipated lists that come out this time of year??
I left my parents house at 11:15 this morning to drive back home to Worcester. It was the longest 8 hours of my life and sadly two hours in decided to listen to a book. I purchased this one, but had to wait over an hour later til I had WiFi to download it. I got to chapter 15 which I‘ve no idea how far I am into it. So far it‘s really good and hooray for the reader being able to pronounce the towns in Maine.

This book arrived today along with with a lovely post card & a set of cute cat bookmarks. Thanks @BookwormAHN !!
Looks like a wild read- 📚😍
This book was a bit dull and not as exciting as you would expect from the description. A group of friends decide to go white water rafting and then disaster strikes and they have to escape from the woods. These girls spend a surprising amount of time sleeping when they should be running. On a positive note the cover is amazing!
@kspenmoll The River At Night is on it's way to you.
#LMPBC @suvata Group G 😺
I finished The River At Night for #LMPBC from @suvata last night. No early spoilers other than I liked it. Hopefully Monday I can get it in the mail to @kspenmoll for Group G.
@kspenmoll @bookish_wookish @merelybookish How are you gals doing with your reading?

4⭐️. An action-packed unforgettable white-water rafting thriller, that took my breath away and dispelled any notion of a future rafting trip. It‘s off the bucket list! The pacing of the story was slow at first, but picked up nicely once the actual road trip began. And once the women get on the water it was an intense trip downstream. This was a thriller I read recently and was one of those that kept me up reading very very late! (Had to use a google photo- I can‘t find the book anywhere.)
#Giveawaythriller
Overall, I liked this book. The pace was good and it kept me interested. I also loved the setting of the beautiful Maine woods with a very treacherous river. Some of the characters were irritating and I would have loved a bit more depth to the story. This book also did require me to suspend my disbelief, which I don't generally like when it comes to thrillers. This book won't top my list of favorite reads, but overall I liked it.
So far I'm enjoying this book and I'm really loving the wilderness setting!
