Receiving a cryptic letter indicating that his father has risen from the dead, he returns home to find out the truth. With a flawed antihero, wonderful secondary characters and a setting dripping with atmosphere, a must read.The first book in the series.

It is set in an imaginary regency period and has traces of magic and mythical creatures in it. A great debut novel with shades of Patrick O' Brien and George R. R. Martin. If your a fan of sea battles, arcane powers, a tough heroine and a gallant hero, this is for you. There is also a very satisfying ending that hints at more stories.

A small Louisiana town harbours a swap that has the power to steal people and memories. A dark gothic tale for young readers. After Sterling Saucer has a fight with her brother and stepfather Phin storms off and disappears into the swamp and a girl returns in his stead claiming to be her sister. Nobody remembers he ever existed and together with Heath the only person who believes must discover the secrets of the swamp. Great atmospheric mystery.

I just felt like there was something missing, as if this were a sequel, no backstory on incident that got them together. Doppelgangers or something more? A group of people who had been in contact with an ancient apparatus start to become victims of identity theft, completely. They are exact duplicates but only better version and must figure it out before it is to late. Slow and confusing, hard to care about characters but I finished it 🤔.

RECURSION is a mind bending trip that deals with heavy subjects as neuroscience, time, philosophy, physics and nature of our memory. The story follows a scientist Helena Smith as she tries to find a way for alzheimer patients to retain their memory and an NYPD dectective Barry Sutton as he tries to cope with a tragedy. This is a fantastic sciece fiction thriller which deals with the fragile elements of time, identity and memory. Not to be missed.

When a sink hole opens up in the Australian outback , it uncovers a pristine cave system. Sam joins an expedition to explore the new cave system. As the team descends into the bowels of the earth they realize that they are not alone and fighting to survive! The claustrophobia, the tension, the monster all lead to a fast paced scary good read and highly recommended.

Cordelia Liu has moved all the way from California to Vermont after her father loses her job. Her new school looks like a haunted mansion with freaky iron gates, large spiral roofs and hallways that don't make sense. After making some friends she discovers that the school is haunted and full of spirits. With her new friends she has to solve the mystery before it's too late. Loved the book and is the perfect spooky ghosts story for middle graders.

The follow up to small spaces. Another creepy, spine tingling tale aimed for young reader's but can be enjoyed by all. This time friends Ollie, Coco and Brian are spending the winter break with their parents at a ski resort. They are forced to spend the time indoors as a snowstorm sets in. Coco is convinced that she keeps seeing a ghost. Along with a mysterious stranger they investigate the eerie happenings. Dead voices is a creepy good follow up.

The perfect book to read on a chilly autumn night. This book is about healing and friendship and learning to let go while never letting go. It is also a spooky book for tweens, nothing to scary though. It is about Ollie who has suffered a tragic loss and only finds solace in her books. When she comes across a woman tossing a book in the river she saves the book. From there she is thrust into an adventure that she didn't intend for. Enjoy 🎃 👻🎃

I love coming of age horror stories especially ones that involve summer and haunted houses. Set in small town Utah about Ret and his gang of that are dared to sleep over at the crooked house. From there a little mystery ensues as they investigate the history of the house. The story ramps up the spookyiness as the try and solve it. The build up was excellent but ending was a little disappointing. A quick easy read that will appeal to young readers.

Old bones is the start of a new series by Preston and Child. It centres on two female leads who have made appearances in their other books. It mixes history, archaelogy and adventure. The story focuses on the Donner party and a lost treasure. The history has been tweaked a little but the story is overall satisfying. For fans of the duo this won't disappoint and should gain some new fans. Sure to lead a surge in attention of what really happened.

I'm a huge Lovecraft fan, so I was already sold based on the cover. That being said it is a wonderful novella to get lost in. Took me a little to get invested into but once I did I devoured it. The author has a way of painting scenery through metaphors that is beautifully uniquely hers. The story about a scoobyesque gang that investigate the spindrift house for supernatural happenings and keeps you reading with certainty that it won't end well.

The conclusion to the series and bittersweet. The build up, the suspense, the race to finish it to see what happens and emptiness in your heart when it concludes. The group of characters must make a final stand against the darkling by finding the last amplifier and missing prince. I come to love the characters, the richly built universe and every twist and turn in the series. Sad for the series to end but Leigh Bardugo has gained a fan for life!

And the series is coming to Netflix! The story starts off with a bang, middle does meander a little but ends with a stunning conclusion. Bardugo builds on her fantasy world with rich details and her own deft touch adding a little steam punk with magic. A heady blend of adventure, romance and fantasy. The action, character development and plot all continue with great skill and flair. Highly recommended!!

Grave beginnings is the fist book in the urban fantasy series grave report. The main character, Vincent graves, is a man returned from the dead to help solve supernatural murders. He incorporates the recently deceased victim and has a set time frame to solve the crime. His soul is transferred into the body and has no memory of his past life. Solid high concept beginning and looking forward to the next in the series.

Lovecraft in its theme. Set in an all american town cut off from the rest of the world by a strange snowstorm. Mixes police procedural with high concept horror. The main character discovers a body which has ritualistic overtones and finds out a plot to bring back the old ones. So so horror just a little slow for me. On a side note the secondary character Kathy Ryan has her own series now with three books.

Enter a beautiful world inspired by Russia. Rich fantasy with an amazing detailed world building. Aimed at YA but for everyone who loves fantasy. Set in world called Ravka, rich in it's own mythology and beliefs. Truly a world you can get lost in and reading book two now.

Summer's end is wonderful marvelously written and unforgettable horror story for middle grade students. It a classic ghosts story with a generations old mystery with a nice surprise twist. A very easy read but overall fun. Recommend for middle graders and up.

Creepy and heartbreaking multi generational tale about fathers and sons. Slow burn of a novel which stays with you.

Great horror/western book, a fun ride with a little history, a little western, ghosts, demons, djiinn and more oh my! Overall a great easy read.

A darker tale, strong second book in the series, completely captivating, not to be missed!

Starts off rather slow. You will be misdirected. You may want to set it aside but persevere. It is well worth it and I can't wait for the next book.
