Stalking Darkness | Lynn Flewelling

I cannot get enough of Flewelling‘s Nightrunner series. This is the second book and it wraps up the ends left open in the first book (Luck in the Shadows) masterfully and the LGBTQ romance gave me goosebumps; it was so good. I cannot wait to jump into the third book and continue on Seregil and Alec‘s journey together. This is great for fans of high fantasy & heist books (like the Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch.) #Nightrunner #LynnFlewelling

Just finished Ware‘s The Turn of the Key. Really enjoyed the whole Turn of the Screw vibes, tho the ending seemed a little abrupt after all of that juicy, suspenseful buildup. Still, I def recommend this to fans of gothic house horror and distressed Nannies just trying to survive bad-vibe children. It‘s also a fairly short read. I was able to finish it in two days. #TheTurnoftheKey #RuthWare

Picked up this book because I loved A Song of Achilles and Circe and was very interested in reading about the Trojan War from a female perspective. I really enjoyed seeing the famous stories told from the feminine side and loved especially the chapters that depicted the ridiculousness of the female gods. Other chapters were harder to read but still very powerful. Def recommend this to those interested in Greek mythology/tales. #AThousandShips

I actually enjoyed this second book in the PC Grant/Rivers of London series a little bit more than it's predecessor. Jazz is central to this mystery and all of the historical references tempted me to research more on my own. Never thought I'd find the detailed procedures of policing in London to be so interesting but Grant's sardonic tone keeps the minutiae of even the grunt work engaging. I ❤️ this world. #riversoflondon #benaaronovitch #pcgrant

I'm not going to lie, about 3/4 of the way through this book, I began to skim pages instead of paying them close attention. I don't take offense when a book's plot is unrealistic, but when it's glaringly sadistic for reasons that seem to only be to spurn a convoluted plot that's ripe for a PG-13 Lifetime adaptation, I get a little angry about my wasted time. This was my first book to read by Slaughter and it will be my last.

ReadingOver50 I was a little shocked by the level of violence too. Very sadistic 7y

I absolutely adored this book. It's a completely captivating foray into urban fantasy and perfect for people that enjoy books like Gaiman's Neverwhere but also can't help but marathon episodes of Law & Order in their spare time. The author also delves into interesting historical asides about London's storied past and leaves enough threads dangling to keep reader's anticipating the next book. #riversoflondon #benaaronovitch #pcgrant

CruelSister Also, it was also refreshing to have a plot with such a dynamic cast. The series branches out in later books, encompassing strong female (and male) characters along with a nicely mixed array of racial, religious and sexual orientations presented by not just "token" characters but important people to the series' plots. I'd love to see this series adapted for television! 7y

"Well, our victim had a thirst for knowledge," said Stephanopolous. "He was a student at St. Martins College." Absolutely loved this sly little Pulp reference. "Common People" is prob one of my fave songs.
