This was an entertaining twisty thriller about a nanny accused of murder and a possibly haunted house. Lots of secrets are uncovered so I suggest going in blind if possible. The audiobook is a solid production as well. I‘m not sure how I feel about the ending though, still thinking about it. 4⭐️

This was a really solid modern gothic tale of secrets, lies, and murder. I loved the overall formatting - our main character writing to a lawyer asking for help and telling her story after a devastating occurrence - and trying to figure out exactly what did happened. Great narrator too! 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 #scarathlon2022 #teamslaughter #boomspinbingo #outstandingoctober #bookishbingo #octoberbookbingo (coffee shop) continued in comments…

A gothic atmosphere with a clever suspension of tension, I enjoyed this, but it fell a bit flat with it‘s rushed ending. The high tech home management system was a fun addition, and Rowan made for a believable narrator. But I started to feel some of the tropes of the genre got repetitive. Unsettling noise here…unexplained doors/windows opening there…creepy kids, unfriendly housekeeper etc. A fun read, but not particularly memorable or unique.

Cinfhen Yeah, Ruth Ware isn‘t a favorite of mine 😬 2mo
KarenUK @Cinfhen Her writing is fine… just no surprises with the stories, and the characters aren‘t memorable enough. I‘m just over mystery thrillers right now. I think🤷‍♀️.Except I can‘t wait to read the third murder club! Those characters are just lovely! 💕 2mo

Undoubtedly my favorite Ruth Ware book so far. It checked all the boxes: eerie, dark, haunting and creepy to the last page.

When she stumbles across the ad, she‘s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss—a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten. Until …

Whoa. This was eerily good. Think Bly Manor, with Turn of the Screw, with a bit of crime feel in there… to me it ended a bit abruptly, and even when there was 20 min left on my audio I kept thinking “HOWS THIS GONNA END SO SOON”?! But it‘s prob for the best, quit while you‘re ahead, right? Recommend it for fans of mild horror and suspense 🤘🏽

I loved this #NewYearWhoDis pick! Ware takes the reader fully inside her protagonist‘s world, and it‘s a creepy, tense, relatable ride. (Freaking out over footsteps in the nonexistent room above your head is a universal experience, yes?) I figured out what was going on, but I was so immersed in the atmosphere that that didn‘t hurt my enjoyment even a little bit.

Laughterhp Oh I listened to this one on audio too! I really like the narrator. 10mo

I did some #audioknitting yesterday in company with this creepy #NewYearWhoDis book. The fox has a second eye!

The blurbs don‘t tout THE TURN OF THE KEY as a retelling of THE TURN OF THE SCREW, but that‘s what it is, right? I haven‘t read the original book, but I did watch THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR and this seems to have a lot of similarities with that. (No lesbians yet, alas. I always hope there‘ll be lesbians and/or bi women in a cast.)

Started off slowly building the suspense and made me quite invested in the main character's story, but the ending just ruined it completely. I found it quite predictable and anticlimactic, as well as rushed for whatever reason. Still tension building and character building remain the strongest points of this book for me.

So much going on - I graduated college!!! 🥳 Starting grad school in the Spring and made a promise to myself to read more and retrain my brain away from my phone and back to my books!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don‘t often read books like this, but this one makes me want to! Finishing it at work was hilarious as multiple coworkers asked me if I was ok as the story wrapped up 😂 Ware crafts a lot of twists - some I guessed & some I did not - and I enjoyed the ride for sure! This is a book club book, and I‘m glad, as always, for the push to read different genres. Also, the audiobook was incredible. Highly recommend experiencing the book that way.

While I loved the concept of a retelling of The Turn of the Screw as a mystery, there was something missing from this for me. The unique format of this as a letter was super cool. The twists were quite good as well, especially the ending, which I thought was a really solid conclusion and one I didn‘t see coming. I plowed through the first half and then kind of stuttered through for the last half.

I really got into the atmosphere in this one. It's not as strong as the other books I read by Ware so far, but still enjoyable, and especially the endI thought was well done. Rowan is not really a heroine one would like, but to me it was all part of the story. Like we're not supposed to like her, but to rethink her actions and thoughts. And that made the story more believable and real to me.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved everything about this book it kept me up at night it was that atmospheric and addictive. A nanny living in a smart house....alone with the children whilst the parents work overseas....creepy things start happening....why have other nannies left after working here for only short periods....a child dies....the nanny writes to a lawyer to tell her side of the story.... a twisty, compelling read.

So I finished this one. I have to say I really liked it. It was a mix of ghost-type story that really had me guessing. There were a few twists that I wasn‘t really expecting and by the middle of the book I was convinced these people are crazy. I also loved how the author was able to capture what it‘s like being home with a toddler so accurately that I found myself empathizing.

Just finished Ware‘s The Turn of the Key. Really enjoyed the whole Turn of the Screw vibes, tho the ending seemed a little abrupt after all of that juicy, suspenseful buildup. Still, I def recommend this to fans of gothic house horror and distressed Nannies just trying to survive bad-vibe children. It‘s also a fairly short read. I was able to finish it in two days. #TheTurnoftheKey #RuthWare

Great! Could have binged it in 2 or even 1 listen had I been able to be honest! Twists and turns most of which I didn't see coming close till they were revealed and not too many as to be completely ridiculous and beyond belief. I always love an author who sets up a story that can go a variety of ways.

Half way through and I'm really loving this! I have decided I'm a big fan of Imogen Church's narration of stories as well- don't think I ever thought I'd have favourite narrators, well besides David Attenborough 😂
But the story is compelling & I feel I would be as boggled and baffled by a tech house (and supremely creeper out) as this Rowan!

Fast, fun thriller with tons of twists and turns--a couple I saw coming but others I did not. It centers around a young nanny who takes a job at an eerie Victorian house with high tech upgrades.

Why has the family gone through several nannies? What's she hiding? What's deep inside the house and grounds?

Caught up!!! Finished this one today. Twisted and suspenseful, this one keeps you intrigued until the final pages. When Rowan accepts a nanny position after a slew of nannies have not lasted very long, clearly there is something wrong..with the house? With the parents? Clearly something isn‘t right. Additionally, the story opens with Rowan in jail desperately writing to a lawyer begging for representation because she is innocent
