Do you love cold grim Scandinavian mysteries? I do especially when the coldness is interspersed with crazy emotional turmoil, psychological intrigue and blazingly original characters. The protagonist is a female detective in a dead marriage, who while investigating the death of boys, meets a psychologist with her own secrets. N

A marriage writ large punctuated with secrets so large they engulf the characters from start to inevitable tables turned finish. Did I love it? Not really - though much resonates personally- and maybe that's why, but I was engrossed throughout. Will I gobble up all of Lauren Groff's work from now on. Assuredly.
