THIS BOOK!! Ok so let me first start out by saying that this book is a masterpiece. It‘s written from a gay boy‘s POV, and as a gay person myself let me tell you this book was SO refreshing. It was the perfect balance of one liners and poems. It‘s a strong reminder of why it‘s is so important to love yourself first and it was honestly just such a good book.

I don‘t know how to write a review that could possibly encapsulate the wonder that is TBT. I don‘t know how to show you how much it resonated with me or how much I fell in love with it. I don‘t know how I can convince you to read it, or show you just how much you‘re missing. It rendered me speechless I can‘t even wrap my head around how it‘s even possible to write something so devastatingly beautiful. Anyways, read it. It‘ll show you something.

Gay witches. Must I say more? (I‘m going to say more). This was one of the best sapphic romances I‘ve read recently and if Eva would become my wife already I would be very happy:)
On another note- this is basically your average fantasy book. Nothing special except for that Eva, the Witch Queen, enemy to the MC (and eventual lover) is introduced and she brought the entire book up a couple stars. 4/5

Women with swords, monsters and magical powers- what more could you want? Representation in main characters? Badass black history? You got it! We see Bree interact with a lot of people whom were very close to her. I was particularly fond of Bree's therapist and her relationship. Deonn was able to add a lot of background information to their therapy sessions to inform both the reader and Bree about the magical world, and it really worked.

A lot of times I give books 5 stars because they broke me in some way. Oftentimes it‘s the sad books that leave the most of an impact. (People tend to perseverate on the bad things more than the good anyway) But in the end there is nothing better than finding a family in an unexpected place, and realizing that family is yours. I got to experience a group of people who formed a love so big that it spilled out of the pages and into my heart.

I have no idea how to put the beauty of this book into words. Told from the POV of Aphrodite; with snippets from Apollo, Ares, and Hades, this book was as stunning as they were. With the help of the gods, Aphrodite answers the age old question: why is love so drawn to war? Hazel, James, Aubrey, and Colette- these four different mortals teach us about heartbreak, sorrow, and loss. It was a lovely war. Terribly lovely, sure, but lovely nonetheless.

Please check Trigger Warnings before reading!
I will definitely be reading the rest of Mary H. K. Choi‘s books. I can‘t say too much without giving it away, but in the words of the author herself: “for those who struggle with body image or eating disorders- this might be a bit of an emotionally expensive story for you. Please be gentle with yourself, and know that there is no such thing as a bad body. Take up space. It is your birthright.”

rjsthumbelina I loved this one so much! I never would have picked it up if it weren't the B&N YA book club pick. (though, I'd consider it more adult than YA) 3y
Dandelionmonster @rjsthumbelina yes! I think this book deserves a lot more appreciation, I found someone recommending it on social media a couple weeks ago. But I agree, this was definitely an adult book. 3y
