I‘m on a romance roll. I loved that this was unintentionally inspired by “When Harry Met Sally.” You can see hints of that at play throughout the book. I think it added to the depth of the storyline.

In April 2020 I read Beach Read and abdolutley loved it! So when this one came out I had to pick it up. I enjoyed the friends to lovers storyline, all the trips they went on, and them ultimately dealing with their own mental health. I wasn't a huge fan of the slower pace and not having the duel perspectives between Poppy and Alex, I tend to like seeing both perspectives, but overall a great, light read.
This book is reminiscent of When Harry Met Sally, which Emily Henry refers to in her readers guide. Perfect read going into summer!
She's become an auto-read for me. Just started her newest! So much fun.
⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I liked this one better than Beach Read. I loved the way she incorporated different places into this book. The locations really became like another character. I liked Poppy and Alex and how everything came together. It was a cute story and a fun summer book to read. I thought it was mostly predictable, but I still enjoyed it!
This was a nice surprise! These Libby holds came in on the same day, & neither was supposed to for weeks! 😁 Diving in!
4/5
I'm not usually a fan of friends to lovers romances, but this was a slow burn romance between friends that spans across ten years of summer trips they've taken together
I‘m really loving this author. Sometimes when I‘m reading serious books, it‘s nice to pick one up that‘s a lot lighter. Highly recommend if you like #chicklit and want a lighter beach read.
Biked around town to visit FIVE Little Free Libraries today. I donated about 20 books, kids and adult stuff and found one to take home!
1. Number of vacation days plus one. Who am I kidding?!? I always take at least six books.
2. In a car, yes. On a plane, paperbacks and Kindle.

I have mixed feelings about this. Ultimately, I liked it. I was invested in the characters, so I read until the end, but I did contemplate not finishing the book. It‘s very well written, I just found there were way more details than necessary and honestly a simple conversation between the main characters could‘ve ended the book at any point. I also feel it lacked the male character‘s perspective.
🧳🧳🧳🧳 I liked this one more than I liked Beach Read. Alex feels so familiar. And... Poppy, I feel her in my soul. I wish that last chapter gave us more. I wasn't ready to say goodbye. 😭

I‘m not a huge romance reader but as far as romance goes this was really good! I‘ve come to realize I think I‘m a bigger fan of the friends-to-lovers trope than anything else. I really enjoyed the two main characters and found them endearing each in their own way. I‘m not really sure why the author gave the story this title but it doesn‘t really represent the story very well (weird complaint but there you have it). Overall enjoyable! 🌟🌟🌟💫
We leave for Hawaii bright & early Saturday morning (I can‘t post on any other social media that we‘re going away since my MIL posted my address online 🙄). I think I‘ve narrowed my book selection down for the week. I‘m trying to not overpack & being realistic about how much I‘ll be able to read between kids & the few fun activities we‘ve planned. I‘m looking forward to some relaxation for the week.
Alex is a dream and Poppy is the smart ass/sassy friend you have always wanted! 😊This was a good read! Was it my favorite rom com ever? Probably not🤷♀️Will I pick it up again if I want an easy funny heart warming read? Definitely yes☺️
Had to do a #reread to get myself in the mood for my own vaca! Emily Henry is a master of the quip, and Poppy and Alex's fears are so painfully real. Only makes it sweeter when they finally take the plunge, though. #romcom #contemporaryromance
Ok, so I admit it. I am a ridiculous romantic. Maybe it‘s the eternal optimist in me, maybe it‘s because I have my own far-fetched, soppy, meet-cute and whirlwind love story so the novels don‘t feel unbelievable. Who knows? I just don‘t read much romance, just not my reading preference. But Emily Henry seems to be a winner for me. This ‘friend to lovers‘ story hooked me with the characters, and the past present storyline. Have to say, I loved it.
March 25, 2022 I think it has been about a week since my last update. Today I spent some well needed time soaking up Vitamin D in the patio while reading this book. It was a bit slow in the beginning but I am like half way through (if not more) and it has gotten better. If I were to rate this, I would give it 4 / 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm so glad I picked this book up even after disliking Beach Read by this author. This book made me feel all the feels. Poppy and Alex are definitely in my top 5 favorite fictional couples.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
March 19, 2022 Here is my stack that I have kind of started. As you can see, I started Days of Distraction and People We Meet on Vacation. I have not begun the other two yet. I am gradually going through my books but have been busy. Thank you for being patient
Funny and full of emotion. Loved the chemistry between the characters and their sense of humor. Has the fear of losing something kept you from ever having it?? The fear of rejection is real in both characters for different reasons…
A wonderful story that you can read in one sitting. Strong "When Harry Met Sally" vibes revolving around a couple of friends who start out as acquaintances and soon become best friends. Poppy's job as a travel writer allows them to take trips every summer. As in all romcoms, they fight their feelings not wanting to destroy their friendship. Strong character development and an opposites attract love story make for an enjoyable time.
What a delightful gem. Poppy & Alex's friendship was so sweet. I enjoyed the alternation between current day and previous summers, building to the last trip. Henry did a great job creating such loveable characters and really set the scene each time she moved the story to a new location.
Also, I'm glad I read this in the middle of a Canadian winter because I don't think I could have handled that air-conditionless Palm Springs apartment otherwise.
March 5, 2022 Happy Saturday Listers!!! I know that it has been quite some time since I updated on here. Thank you for your patience. I have read more books since January but I dont think I can list them all out. Just take my word for it.
I admire the characters for their wit. I can‘t think fast enough to banter in real life they way they do in books.
This book was incredible. The twist and turns keep it from being a slow romance book. I felt happy, angry, sad and I even cried a bit! I would recommend this book over and over again.
We‘ve had probably 30-35 cm of snow over the last 2 days, have a blowing snow advisory for today and it‘s the Family Day long weekend so I‘m expecting lots of #weekendreading, which is good cause right now, I‘m nowhere near hitting my #FabulousFebruary goal. (And yes, I‘ll absolutely be reading The Family on Family Day)
What is everyone else reading this weekend?
this book was on my tbr and like magic i found it on a train in chicago when i was on vacation ♥️ so of course i ate that up & romanticized the heck out of that lol. the book tho is very predictable ! but still worth the read, i love emily henry‘s writing style. it was fun reading the development of the two main characters friendship over a span of 12 years! quick and easy light read
Poppy & Alex are best friends who made a pact that no matter what, they‘d always have their “Summer Trip” together. What happens when one trip, changes the dynamic of their relationship forever? I loved this book! Friends-to-lovers trope with lots of witty banter, unrequited love & sexual tension. I liked that she revealed what happened between them in the past 12 years over the course of the book. The change in timelines made it hard to put down!
This was the (relatively) light-hearted fare I needed. It‘s a friends to lovers story where the two friends go on a vacation together each year. I like Henry‘s writing.
This was a #botm selection from 2021.
I picked this up because 1. Everyone is talking about it and 2. I always read a light, breezy fiction when reading a heavy non-fiction. This would be a good beach read but I read so many great books this month I don't feel like I can put this in the same league. I was equal parts entertained and annoyed. 3.5⭐️
Book 12
I listened to People We Meet on Vacation. A fun, lighthearted love story about friends that vacation together. Easy to listen to and engaging. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I‘d give this book 3.5/5 stars. I didn‘t care for the authors writing style. That said it was a good fluff fiction piece- great for vacation or if you‘ve just read something heavy and want to keep it light. The book follows Alex and Poppy over 12 years of vacations. I enjoyed their travel stories. It‘s a “will they or won‘t they get together” type book. I loved the Alex character.
Nothing like reading about sunny vacations during a good Ol‘ New England blizzard 😅 #BOTM #PeopleWeMeetOnVacation
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This was a reread for book club, and I loved it just as much as the first time around! I think it‘s one of my favorite in the friends-to-lovers trope with one of the best romance endings. They still get their happily ever after, but in a way that feels more realistic. The audiobook is also very well done - Julia Whelan is quickly becoming a favorite. Highly recommend this one - already looking forward to rereading it again one day!

The banter was good, the romance was sweet, the narration was excellent.
A really fun read for the summer holidays, with a great format, leaping back and forwards in time across annual vacations taken between best friends. Emily Henry‘s books aren‘t fluffy romance, they can be pretty angsty and definitely give you the feels. The contrasts between the 2 main characters gave this more interest too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This story is about two best friends, Alex and Poppy. They met in college and it‘s their tradition to take an annual summer trip together. Two years ago, their friendship crumbled and they stopped talking. Poppy knows that she has to make it right with Alex, so she reaches out to him and convinces him to go on one last trip together. In Palm Springs they encounter a few mishaps, but Poppy is determined to fix things between them no matter what.
Cute but I guess I was hoping for a little bit more substance a little less fluff. I really enjoyed the sharp, witty dialogue and I like Julia Whelan‘s narration but the character of Poppy started to grate on my nerves. Friends who meet every #summer to travel together, begin to develop feelings for each other but neither one is willing to risk ruining their friendship. #Pop22 #SetDuringYourFavoriteSeason
This just came in from my #LibraryHold list 💓❣️💓 After a heavier read, I‘m ready for something light-ish
Using for #pop22 #TakesPlaceOnAHoliday 🌴☀️👙
Also on @Jas16 #Top21of21 list 🧡
I chose this as a freebie from #botm last month. I didn't know that we got to choose from books that had been nominated for book of the year.
Most of the other nominees I had already read.
This was a sweet friends to lovers romance.
Well-written, fast-paced, likeable characters.
I will keep my eyes peeled for more by this author.
