Neurosurgeon Frank Vertosick describes his journey from being a apprehensive and eager medical student to a board certified neurosurgeon. He shares operating stories that are taut and graphic. He did not initially intend to become a neurosurgeon, but “strayed too close to a dangerously seductive profession and became stuck for good like a fly in a spider‘s web.” (Page 27)

Isabella.Pankhurst If you are interested in the medical field or having an inside view of an operating room then this book is for you.

This book is written in first person point of view, Dr. Frank Vertosick tells the story of his medical journey and experiences of becoming a neurosurgeon. Vertosick uses pronouns such as “I, We, us and our.”

Pickpick

Noah and Allie take a trip down memory lane back to the summer of 1940, where they first fell in love. Mill worker Noah Calhoun and rich girl Allie are driven apart by Allies disapproving parents. Years later revisiting the small town of New Bern, on verge of Allies marriage, she reunites with her never forgotten lover Noah.

If you like books that are heart wrenching and full of romance, then this is the book for you!

Isabella.Pankhurst A reoccurring motif is Allies paintings, throughout the book you learn that Allie had lost the love of painting. Revisiting Noah had sparked the joy she had lost, encouraging her to get back into painting. Through painting Allie is able to express her self determination and freedom. Another reoccurring motif in the notebook is poetry. There is reference to Walt Whitman and peons he has written. 3y
