Definitely not the best Ira Levin book I've read. Kind of confusing. Not sure if the bad guy is really a bad guy. Finally started enjoying it maybe halfway through and it's less than 200 pages. Meh all around.
Following the end of WWII, eight men become Atlanta's first black police officers and are thrust into the least powerful power position imaginable. The racism will likely encourage you to take a breather from time to time but if black men and women could live through this reality we can surely survive the fictional. Decent mystery but this book is really about the characters. Worth a read.
