Theresa I was supposed to read it in high school but blew it off. But I read it when I was about 30 & loved it. I would not have appreciated it at 16, so the HS blow off was a good thing. I'm sure my teacher would agree. 😝 7y

Judge | Randy Singer

So I decided to follow @RestlessFickleBookSlut 's example and take this cover judging test.

I hated most of the covers, as I already expected. I am so judgy about covers and can search for hours to find the best one for a book I want.

Sace I love you. Let's sit together on the couch of judgment. I am picky about covers. 7y
drokka I got the same as you as well. But I'm also fussy about how food looks and won't eat it if it's monochromatic. (edited) 7y
BarbaraBB Me too. I hated all those covers. I think they selected them pure for their ugliness 😀! 7y

Kalalalatja @RestlessFickleBookSlut @I-read-and-eat is there a place for me on the couch of judgement? I'm a cover snob all the way! 7y
Zelma They chose some really bad covers for the quiz. I got the same result and I'm not all that picky about covers. 7y
I-read-and-eat @RestlessFickleBookSlut @drokka @Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB @Zelma Thank God I am not alone. I feel very valitaded in my judgyness now. Also; why do bad covers happen to good books? It's so sad because I will never read them. 7y

Cultural Hybridity | Peter Burke
post image

My #Litsypartyofone requires some school reading, just like @Kalalalatja But I don't mind, this book is great! I am 1/4th in and it's a thoughtprovoking discourse on cultural hybridity. Burke is, in his own words, detached but not objective in the discussion of the subject. This makes for a readable and entertaining essay. It makes me very excited about my upcomming course on Roman hybridazation in Syria.

Kalalalatja Glad you are enjoying your reading more than I am 😄 7y

Pickpick

I loved this book. The book is made up out of several documents, witness statements, a memoir of the murderer, trial reccords and a psychologists book. Eventhough you know exactly what happends in the end the story is compelling and makes you want to read on and on. All and all a well written and origional work. No thriller but a great crime fiction book (I genre I don't usually like) 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I have a few chapters to catch up on, but I am joining the #lotrreadalong Sauron and I are ready for an adventure. The is definately one of my favourite series 💛

monkeygirlsmama I'm reading the Lord of the Rings series for the first time ever because of the #lotrchapteraday readalong. I can't stress enough how happy I am I finally decided to read them. Only 6 chapters in on Fellowship of the Rings, and I'm already loving it. I always expected these books would be boring to me, but they're totally not. 😁 Glad you're reading with us. 😌 7y
Tsubame It's been like a decade that I tried reading them, but back then I bailed in the middle of the fight at Minas Tirith, because I just couldn't bare it any longer. Tolkiens language was pure dread to me, but maybe I should give it another try... 7y
I-read-and-eat @monkeygirlsmama I wish I could read it again 😀 Not going to lie... some parts can be challenging as Tolkien is very descriptive. @Tsubame I usually skip the long long long battle scenes as I don't care for them. This makes the books much more exciting 😉 7y

Guys I need your help! I want to jump on the bandwagon and start reading Terry Prattchet but I am completely overwhelmed by the sheer amount of books has written! Do I start the book 1 of the discworld series? Can I randomly jump in? Which are great? Which should I avoid? Help me!!! 😨

TheLondonBookworm I wouldn't actually recommend starting with the Colour of Magic because I think it's harder to get into if you're not used to his style- Idk it's just my opinion :) i usually recommend starting with one of the Witches books like Wyrd Sisters or the Watch books such as Guards Guards - hope you enjoy! 7y
DuckOfDoom I had some trouble, too and I have not read many of them. But I think the Death books are totally enjoyable even though you may not know much of the Discworld. 7y
julesG Normally I'm all for reading in order of the series/publishing. Though, I agree with @TheLondonBookworm, it might be better to read one of the witches books. My favourite, and the one I started with, is Macbest. I read it right before we tackled Macbeth in school. 😁 7y

Zelma I am not a Terry Pratchett expert in the least and I am struggling with the same thing. Tried Colour of Magic and couldn't get into it. However, I really enjoyed The Wee Free Men, which is the first book in his Tiffany Aching books. (edited) 7y
I-read-and-eat @TheLondonBookworm @DuckOfDoom @julesG @Zelma Thanks for the input guys! I know now I don't need to starts the the beginning. I'll keep an eye out for the witches books and do some blurb and cover shopping 😉 7y
laurieluna If you're still wanting to get into Pratchett, the ones I recommend the most to get start on are Wyrd Sisters, Guards Guards and Hogfather (which is a bit of a seasonal one). Although characters do run throughout the books, all of his discworld novels are pretty much stand alone apart from the first 2. X 7y

Picked this one up at the library, mainly because of the design of the cover. So simplistic and elegant. Other than that the story sounds like great genre bending and magical realism. Plus, Jeff Vandermeer endorses it, do I need more reasons to pick up a book? Nope.

Going to dive into this classic tonight. I've never read it before but it sounds like it's right up my alley.

And I made some mini apple crumble tarts to eat when taking reading breaks. (Much too crumbly to eat while reading!😉)

DGRachel I read it in my gothic lit class in college. Enjoy! 7y

I-read-and-eat @DGRachel @Em_loves I loved it! I usually don't go for 'the classics' but this book was a winner! 7y

Pickpick

I finaly got around to reading this amazing trilogy. It was exciting, origional and the characters were well developed. It's a take full of magic but also provides insights into our world. If I had one complaint it is that the language didn't always feel natural to me, but I got used to that while reading. Definately a pick for me! I can't wait for Pullman's next book to come out.🌟🌟🌟🌟+1/2🌟

Brittbritt I really want to reread this in time for the new book to come out! Loved these as a kid 7y

Came home after a very lovely trip to the sea. The weather was great, the food delicious and the sea and city were beautiful. And offcourse there was an amazing bookshop! I could not resist buying a book, eventhough my birthday is around the corner, and I should really wait. But one more book can't hurt, right???

Kalalalatja One little book never hurt anybody 😄 7y

I loved this collection of 'scary' stories. Some are scary stories you used to tell eachother at sleepovers. There are trick stories, fairy tales, stories that mess with time and space and beautiful (or beautifully sad) stories. There is something in here for everyone. The only one I did not care for was the Doctor Who story, as I don't care about that show at all. Great collection! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

PS. This is the abbey where I finished the book

Kalalalatja Great review! And I agree about the Doctor Who story. I haven't watched the show either 😊 7y

scripturient Where exactly is that? Looks like Zeeland. 😊 7y
I-read-and-eat @scripturient You are right!! It is Zeeland. Do you come there often? I am not even sure I would have recognized it and I live an hour away 😂 7y
scripturient @I-read-and-eat 😊 I go to Oostkapelle at least once a year. Have spent my holidays there ever since I was two years old. Looking forward to September already when we go back for a week. Where exactly is this? He picture of the abbey looked a bit like Veere. :) 7y
scripturient Or Middelburg, come to think of it. :) 7y
I-read-and-eat @scripturient That's great! I did see a lot of German people there, I guess it's a populair destination. I used to go often as a child but this was my first time as an adult. And you're right it's the herb garden in thr Middelburg abbey. If you're there in September we might grab a coffee together! 7y
scripturient @I-read-and-eat Yes, that would be great! And yeah, it is super popular with the Germans. 😂 7y
scripturient @I-read-and-eat BTW, I just set up a WhatsApp group for the September meeting. You can email me your number and I'll add you. stefanie.caeners@uni-due.de 7y

Stopped by the library to grab a light and easy book. The Bone Clocks is great but gives me the chills at times and as I am home alone it might be best to have something light for the evening. #libraryhaul

Diner was an herb-omelet filled with mushrooms and parmesan. (It turned out slightly bigger than expected and did not fit on my plate 🙈)

Zelma Looks and sounds delicious! I eat eggs just about everyday. (edited) 7y
Jaimelire The Rosie Effect is a fun book! 7y
I-read-and-eat @Zelma I never eat eggs ( I do not know what to do with them ) but this worked out great! 7y
Zelma @I-read-and-eat I scramble them. Make egg sandwiches. Hardboiled in my salad. Egg salad sandwiches or on crackers. hardboiled in tuna salad. I love eggs! 😂 7y

Reading while waiting at the hospital. Nothing super serious, don't worry. I am at the jaw surgery departement for some ear problems. (What?! Yeah, I know, I am not sure what's going om either but it appears to be connected. We'll see) Anyway they are running really late so plenty of time to read!

julesG Speedy recovery, whatever it is. 7y
