This is my book club book for February and I am really glad someone picked this as I never would have! The story of a woman of science in the 18th century this story is a fascinating read and now I can't seem to help but notice articles and books about women in science everywhere! https://www.brainpickings.org/2016/12/26/mary-somerville-scientist/ This book would make a great pairing with Labgirl if you're doing Fic and NonFic reads!

So different from what I was expecting... whatever that was! Sad, strange, true, uplifting, honest yet fiction. This had me in tears in parts. I loved it. Particularly the writing style, it was brilliantly done and incredibly evocative, to me at least, of how grief can feel.

Honest, articulate, full of swear words and home truths, Ford doesn't pull any punches but is engaging and hopeful even when sharing all the crap she's had to go through. All I keep thinking is how much I wish I had this book when I was growing up. She openly discusses topics most shy away from. I know you don't need me to tell you to read this book, but please do read it and what's more, read it aloud to your partners, friends and parents.

So many great lines, paragraphs, chapters etc... but this one is awesome: "No one deserves a medal because they managed to resist being a certified fuck-knuckle even though - and maybe especially because - they could if they wanted to but didn't." Love this book so much!!!

I really wanted to like this book. I haven't enjoyed the author's fiction but so often in similar cases I am able to enjoy their non fiction. Not so here. This was not an insightful book. It was essentially a whinge fest. I completely agree with the author that Australia is a racist country but at least offer some hope to the reader or a way forward or I don't know, ANYTHING! There are better books dealing with this topic out there. Don't bother.

I actually read this awhile back, loved it, and have recently lost a friend and it struck me anew how little I (or many of the people around me) understand grief. I am grateful to have read this book when I was not in need of it as it is now a comfort to me. I know there are other books out there which will help too so am keeping my eyes open and would welcome recommendations!

My October book club book and my choice and I'm pretty happy with it! A great read, loved the different chaptrts giving each characters backstory, although I had to stop myself going straight to the end to find out just what happened!!! This could be an amazing movie I think. Anyway, looking forward to talking about it soon ☺☺☺

A different take on witches. I liked it. Slow moving, but compelling.

The first Garner book I truly love. Such clear vision of the world around us and such beautifully and lovingly crafted words. This is going to be a Christmas present for a few people!

Soooo good. Not what I expected but better. The epilogue confused me a little, am still thinking about it. Definitely a page-turner!!!

This book may be small but it packs a punch! Fits perfectly inside your handbag too so you can take it out and quote passages at will.

Great read, love werewolf stories, especially with such biting commentary on society ...!
