Despite the fact that the two main characters are vain, lazy, selfish human beings I actually loved this look. Seeing their lives slowly unravel as Fitzgerald‘s poetic description provides insight into their innermost thoughts was fascinating.

I cannot believe it‘s taken me this long to read this! Totally worth the wait. This is such an important novel about the human nature and the nature of society. The fact that the narrative voice was a child made it all the more powerful. A new favourite.
This book was seriously creepy and kept me guessing the whole way through! A chilling yet believable concept which will certainly stick in my head when I next get the train! I was constantly coming up with new theories and explanations but not one of them was correct- very clever!
Wow! It's been a long time since a book had me captivated like this. I read it in a day. I was so drawn in to the different plot lines and characters as they all faced their own moral dilemmas. This had me gasping out loud, crying and laughing. The narrative voices of the main characters were compelling and I really felt I knew them, as a result I was so involved with the plot which was so clever and at times completely stressful!
Fascinating and disturbing! When an injured soldier arrives at a girls boarding school the students and teachers each build a relationship with him. They respond in different ways towards him and each other as jealousy and desire are heightened. Cullinan explores the different ages of a woman and the back stories and driving forces behind the characters are revealed. Thought provoking and addictive!
About halfway through this mysterious little book... the depth of the characters really stands out and although the plot moves slowly, the attention to detail makes it an interesting and thought provoking read.
