Tessa, a twelve year old girl growing up in the United States of America during the 1960s when the Vietnam War was at its peak and people were protesting, demanding to bring their soldiers home. People were also fighting for civil rights, women's liberation and whatnot. Amidst that, Tessa, belonging to a Spanish family is forced to marry Mr. Crosby, a man who sexually abused her.
