The Queen of the Night | Alexander Chee
Pickpick

Meant to get to this book in 2016 and it got pushed into the new year. What an epic start to 2017! This story is so lovely, dramatic, and the story unravels beautifully. I actually switched to reading this on my kindle due to my lack of opera knowledge. I distracted myself wondering on correction enunciation and significance of opera references. Chees writing is eloquent and this story is worth savoring.

I had high hopes for this book. I didn't care for it at all. To be fair in only read the first four chapters before giving up. It started to feel like I wasn't a feminist and couldn't possible care about women's rights unless I wanted to have in depth conversations about my reproductive system or my bodily fluids. This was a pass for me.

I did not expect that I was going to love this book so much! I started reading, blinked, then was 100 pages in. This story catches you up in its intelligence, passion, and sorrow. So worth the read! It will however send you down the rabbit holes of scientific theories, both of the Einstein's, and the Nobel prize.

Someday, Someday, Maybe | Lauren Graham
Pickpick

Loved this book! If you're familiar with Lauren Grahams screen characters you can hear that voice through her portrayal of Franny. This story is cozy on a rainy day. It's predictable, has fun characters who are very relatable. This is a fast paced charming read.

This was a fantastic story of lifelong friendship and loyalty. I immediately feel in love with Frances. She was independent, intelligent, and adventurous. This was a great retelling of history on the famed Galápagos Islands. If you're anything like me you'll be wanting to book a ticket and have your own adventure to the Galapagos.

This was a cute story. I was hoping for something a tad richer in character development and plot. However this was a very enjoyable quick read. If you liked The Storied Life of A J Fickery I think you'll be glad to have read this book also.

Before the Fall | Noah Hawley

This book was written with such strong imagery I could imagine every detail, scene, and person with clarity. It was a quick read. The ending felt like a cheap trick, this one is one I'll have trouble recommending or re-reading.

A Man Called Ove: A Novel | Fredrik Backman
Pickpick

A Man Called Ove is a surprisingly heartwarming story. It is beautifully translated from its original language (Norwegian I think?) into English. This book made me laugh out loud, cry, and nod along in agreement with a protagonist I was unsure of at first. You will not be sorry you read this book!

This book was slow in the first half with a disappointing finish. There are significant biases that are never resolved and handled poorly. Unfinished character development, cheesy ending, not worth reading
