The Stars Are Legion | Kameron Hurley
Pickpick

This book is amazing. Like nothing I've read before. The only thing I can compare it to is the vast, intricate world building of Dune. This world is messy, raw, and gross. Organic world ships orbit an artificial sun in deep space. Zan wakes up without any memory of who she is, and she embarks on a journey she's attempted countless times. She has to get it right this time or all will die. Also, there are no men. Anywhere. It makes sense, trust me.

I remain convinced Standing Bear and Longmire are in love and just don't realize it yet.

I don't know if I'm going to make it. I find Walt almost annoying but probably ok once you get to know him. He keeps oggling all the women in town but is clearly in love with his best friend Henry Standing Bear, and I have no clue what year it is or how old anyone is because he talks about Vietnam like it just happened. Also, he doesn't seem all that keen on solving the murder. Ploughing along...

Still struggling. Have to finish before the library's tractor beam takes the ebook back. Have resorted to ploughing through whether I know who said what. It should be enough that somebody said it, right?

Adam_Z I have the same issue with Johnson's writing. This is one of the few cases where I might enjoy the TV show more than the books. 8y
Pike I love the TV show! I expected the book to be different, but I was hoping to enjoy it as well. So far, still struggling. 8y

The narrative is very stream-of-consciousness, and I'm not used to that style so I'm wading through, unsure of how I feel about it yet.
