What an amazing adventure! Teddy Roosevelt‘s epic journey down an unexplored south American river. Reminded me a lot of Into thin air in its sense of doom and foreboding.

This was one of the best books I‘ve read in a very long time. Soon after jfk starts the peace Corp the author volunteers to go to Iran. The Iranian character of hospitality to the stranger is something beyond anything an American can understand. Klobe‘s presence there develops into the most intense personal connections you can imagine. It‘s quite evident that the Iranian people loved Americans.
