Pickpick

This coffee table book is a regional gem. Flying home to the San Francisco area usually involves coming in over the colorful salt flats. The photos in this book combine color and line in intriguing ways. The text explains all the things we wonder when we drive by, like “what makes the water orange today?”

Mehso-so

As a palate cleanser between heftier novels, this was fine. But I found myself bored with the plot and uninterested in Bosch‘s point of view about any of it. An okay library pick.

An American Marriage | Tayari Jones
Pickpick

Jones draws the interconnected inner worlds of her characters with care. I didn‘t agree with each person‘s point of view, but I understood them. The novel made me think about no-win situations: how do we move forward when justice isn‘t an option? Where do we find mercy for ourselves and those we have loved? The ending felt rushed— just the final chapter or two— but overall, this was a fun, immersive read.
