Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.

I adored this book! From Goodreads: “When a father goes missing, his family's desperate search leads them to question everything they know about him and one another--both a riveting page-turner and a deeply moving portrait of a family in crisis from the award-winning author of Miracle Creek.”

(An unreliable narrator + really annoying friends)*atmospheric setting that felt like a sepia photograph/ excellent pacing and unpredictable twists= a fun read!

Tom Lake: A Novel | Ann Patchett

Ann Patchett is for patient readers. The patience then pays off in beautifully written, memorable, and moving stories that seem to unfold, as opposed to being read. Tom Lake was no exception! I alternated between my kindle and the audiobook, and Meryl Streep‘s narration of the audio was sublime. 4.5 ⭐️

This was a page-turner! Wonderfully atmospheric with a touch of horror and creepiness. Winstead writes in a beautifully poetic prose style that doesn‘t get in the way of the plot: Two unconventional, misunderstood soul mates get to the bottom of sinister happenings in their southern Louisiana hometown. (Triggers a plenty in this one: substance abuse, family violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, and murder.)

This story was so unique! YA fantasy but not formulaic, the pages flew by on this one!

So much better than the first book. The writing still leaves a lot to be desired, but the story is so immersive and interesting that I didn‘t notice it as much as in ACOTAR.

So good! Awesome premise, perfectly paced, and touches on many important topics that just enhance the story even more.

"And yet everything radiates a tension, as if the city has been built upon the skin of a balloon and someone is inflating it toward the breaking point."

MrBook The world does feel like that a bit, doesn't it? *sighs* 8y
