The Language of Stars | Louise Hawes

Mehso-so

This book was okay, but it wasn‘t my style. It took me forever to read because I couldn‘t really get into it. I think a main reason that it wasn‘t my favourite was that it never felt like there was a super suspenseful or exciting moment throughout the book. With that said, it still was very well written and had good character development. If you enjoy poetry I would give it a try, but this book was just simply not for me.

I was reading and I got to a line where Fry says, "No thanks on the Kool-Aid." after calling the class he has to go to the “Baylor Cult”. It reminded me of the piece we read in class called “How to Be a Person” because it also referred to Kool-Aid. I had never heard of Kool-Aid having to do with cults until then and now it comes up again in my book. I found this really interesting that I could make that connection between these pieces of writing.

So far, this book has been pretty good. I like that you get to learn a lot about the characters so you can really connect that their situations. Although, it feels like it got to the exciting parts in the beginning of the book so I am interested to see how the plot will progress.

This book was amazing! I was reading two others that were similar but this one was the best. I love the writing style and would highly recommend giving it a read. I will say, it took me a few pages to really get into the authors writing but once I got past that, I really started to enjoy the book. I also appreciate the ending, in that, I found it to be quite different compared lots of other books that follow a similar story line.

CambriaBell27 Sounds good. I might read it friend 🙂 4y

Peter Van Houten makes a lot more sense after I read more. I like how the author didn‘t immediately tell you that his daughter passed away from cancer and makes you wonder why he is so harsh but then you start to understand and have compassion for him. I still don‘t think that it makes up for the way he treated Gus and Hazel though. You get to know more about his past and it helps you grasp the idea that everyone has a reason for the way they act.

I just finished reading the part where Gus and Hazel meet with Peter Van Houten (author of their favourite book) and I was surprised by the way he acted. The way he writes in his emails makes him out to be a very sophisticated and intellectual person but when they meet him in person I never expected him a rude alcoholic that doesn‘t treat his assistant well. He doesn‘t seem to have a filter on what he says and this came as a complete shock to me.

Five Feet Apart (Media Tie-In) | Rachael Lippincott

This book was amazing! Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott is a fantastic realistic fiction about seventeen-year-old Stella Grant and Will who both have cystic fibrosis (CF). The two meet in a hospital and are not allowed to touch because of their disease. You get to read about how their relationship grows and the struggles they go through. The chapters switch between Stellas and Wills perspectives. I would definitely recommend giving it a read.

I am currently on page 150 (just over half way) of Five Feet Apart. So far I am loving this book! The style of writing is great and I love that you get to read the story from the two characters perspectives. The book is also great because has lots of medical information in it so I get to enjoy reading the book as well as learn some new things (but it isn‘t too much so I still understand what is being talked about in the book).

House arrest is a realistic fiction book by K.A. Holt. It is about a middle school boy named Timothy who is on probation. He has a younger brother who is very sick, a father who left as soon as his brother was born, and has to write in a journal for a year. I really liked this book because it is a novel in verse and I have never read a book written in this way. It is a quick read and I would definitely recommend reading it.

Everything Everything is a realistic fiction by Nicola Yoon. This book is about Madeline Whittier who was diagnosed with SCID. Her disease is extremely rare and dangerous so she has spent her whole life in her house. A family moves next door with a son named Olly. The book revolves around them and how their relationship grows. I loved reading this book and there is an amazing twist. I would recommend it to anyone who likes realistic fiction books.

We Are All Made of Molecules is a realist fiction book by Susan Nielsen. The book is about a thirteen-year-old boy, Stewart Inkster, who‘s dad moves in with fourteen-year-old Ashley Anderson‘s mom. They are opposites but share one thing in common:they are all made of molecules. I enjoyed this book because it is in alternating voices so you get to hear both sides of the story. This is a great book for teens and I really recommend reading this book.
