I'm a third of the way through book #2 of the HP series, and am thoroughly enjoying the read.
I'm a third of the way through book #2 of the HP series, and am thoroughly enjoying the read.
I started on the second book in the Harry Potter series. After watching all of the movies countless times, it is wonderful to be able to go on the literary journey. I'm enjoying the story immensely.
The NXIVM cult has intrigued me for a long time. So, I've decided to read Sarah Edmondson's experience as a high-ranking member of the group. Her writing style is rudimentary and she seems to be trying too hard to say what she needs to say. It's not a page-turner, so far. However, it does seem to be a decent read. Very insightful.
I've been saving the Harry Potter series because I know that one can only have the experience of doing something for the first time once. Rowling's writing style is captivating and even when she is character-building, the story moves along, arcs are being developed, little magical seeds are being planted. The woman is a genius.
I'm currently on page 48 of this novel and it seems that things are moving along at a snail's pace. The author seems to have been world-building and setting up characters for nearly 50 pages. She's finally starting to tell us a little about the actual story, but it's mostly tell-tell-tell and very little show.
For nearly 50 pages, she has been telling the reader about what happened. I'm having a very difficult time connecting to these characters.
Just picked this up today. I've never read a book that had more than 3 or 4 books in the series. This series has 21 books in it! Looks like an exciting world to immerse myself in. I'm looking forward to getting started on it - after I clear out some of the 5 or 6 books that I'm already reading on, of course!
Thanks for your recent post on the series, Robert Greaves.
Okay, I just read the first chapter and I have to say that it is really hard to put this book down!
I've been so busy over the past few years that I have only read for educational and self-help purposes. Picking up an amazing book after so many years is like stumbling upon a well in a desert.
I'm in love. It took all of my will power to put this book down after the first chapter.
I will now, reluctantly, get back to work...
“This is the way the world ends. For the last time.“
I just finished the prologue of Fifth Season and WOW! Such poetry. Such storytelling. Such artistry. Jemisin is truly a wordsmith. She has me hanging on her every word.
I also feel inspired to continue working on being a better writer.
