The Queen of Nothing | Holly Black

Pickpick

I enjoyed this end to the trilogy. It was just as fast paced as the others and had all the twists we hope for from Holly Black. Her lush language makes it alluring and immersive. I will say it felt a little lighter than some of her others but that‘s not much of a criticism unless you only like brooding heroes. I like the balance this brings and the book has kept me a fan. I look forward to the next journey.

Once & Future | Amy Rose Capetta
Pickpick

I love this reimagining of King Arthur. It is not a retelling, it is a reinvention. it is fun, funny, serious and sexy. I adore the new life breathed into these characters and the modern social commentary woven into a futuristic setting.

The Book of Dust | Philip Pullman
Pickpick

I loved being back in Lyra‘s World. It didn‘t matter that it has been years since I read the original trilogy, The Book of Dust is written in such a skillful way that I was gently reminded of what I needed to remember without being heavy handed. I love that this story is both separate from and tied to Lyra‘s story. This book adds to her world.

City of Ghosts | Victoria Schwab

Perfect little read for my Halloween pick. One warning, it made me miss Scotland and want to go back for more Ghost hunting. A good spooky middle grade choice with chills but not gore.
