Missing Jack and Stephen like crazy, I think next time I go to the library I'm going to grab one of the Aubrey/Maturin novels for re-read. In the meantime though I'm making my way through this book of lovely and equally lyrical stories

"A lot of citizens were so ignored and cheated and insulted that they thought they might be in the wrong country, or even the wrong planet, that some terrible mistake had been made"

Also the trial run of my new bookmark from the Norton Simon Museum. It performed admirably

Just devoured this beautiful book! Intensely horrifyingly emotional, you'll fall into it. The lead, Caitlin, loves learning and enjoys the beauty and mysteriousness of nature. Learning about human nature is a little harder though

acorter Have you read any of Vann's other stuff? This book was my intro to him but he is incredible overall. 8y

"... we had reached the point in our marriage where no advantage was given up easily." I love that she does not flinch in any way from the reality of human relationships, but still acknowledges warmth. Brilliant
