I know I've only read 8 books so far this year, but this is my new favorite. Dystopian YA. Indigenous author. Made me cry.

Impulse pull from the library shelves was a win. Love Charlie and Sydney and their growing friendship. Love the glimpses of how harmful white feminism is. Love the beautiful penciled coloring. Oh but geez...please tell me there's a sequel coming soon. Guess I should look into the webcomic?
I must admit there were moments in a few of the stories when I didn't quite comprehend what was going on, but it did nothing to dampen my enjoyment. Oyeyemi's writing is just so damn captivating.
Oh Kate, how I love thee. Like really really love thee.
Imagine my delight when I went searching Scribd to see if they had any more of Victor LaValle's books available, and I found he'd written a comic. Who knew?!! Yeah, probably everyone but me. All of the issues were available, so yay! Dr. Baker is a brilliant scientist and a modern-day descendent of Victor Frankenstein. It's a story about racism and a mother's grief. And it's really good.
Another excellent book to start the year. Will definitely be reading more by Victor LaValle!
I thoroughly loved this book. The writing and quirky style, the beautiful, painful, raw look at grief, the glimpses of South Africa, all of it.
Decided to rejoin Litsy in hopes of keeping better track of my reading (I was such a slacker last year). First book of the year. It definitely surprised me, which I loved. Based solely on the title, I expected more of a thriller, but instead found a bit of humor and family trauma and sisterly bonds.
