I need to read more alternate histories with djinns/ other supernatural creatures, especially if it's also steampunk. Fun, quick read.

The main character, Shori, is part vampire (Ina), part human, but other Ina question her "Ina-ness" because she has human DNA. I love stories that twist our traditional understanding of folklore and use supernatural elements to explore the question of what it means to be human. I need to read more Octavia Butler!

I think that part of being the best superheroine we can be involved embracing that messiness. Realizing there's nothing wrong with us if we don't have every single thing figured out. Letting our big, messy pile of emotions make us stronger. Celebrating when we do well and admitting when we fuck up.
