Men and Cartoons | Jonathan Lethem

Picked this one up at The Last Bookstore with a fistful of other books, including a book on seedy LA history & the "Do The Right Thing" screenplay. I have nothing to share specifically about the book itself, just this photo from The Last Bookstore cause it's dope af.

Stray Bullets | David Lapham

Pickpick

There's no argument that David Lapham is one of the best cartoonist/storytellers in the medium, in part because not enough people know his work to argue with me about it. STRAY BULLETS is as criminally underrated as it is criminal. Carefully crafted, exhilarating, heart-breaking, and archly funny.

Indispensable, fun, behind-the-scenes history on the making of a subversive, American, counter-culture classic (that happens to be set in my hometown... in as much as Robert Altman could "find it," anyway). Great and thorough peak into Altman's process, and an endlessly entertaining read.

...you don't want to create evidence, you don't want to attract the wrong sort of attention to these loved ones of yours, some of whom – you're now discovering – are not people at all, but cities and landscapes, towns and lakes and clothing you used to wear and neighborhood cafés and long-lost dogs.
