I once read this was one of the scariest books abt debt… it didn‘t disappoint. Typical Atwood, I‘d say. Def worth a read!

Unemployed and living in their car, Stan and Charmaine are given the opportunity to live in a new type of community where everyone gets their own home and jobs but spend every month in the town prison. I have heard so many negative things about this book that I didn‘t expect to like it but while it won‘t rank with my favorite Atwoods I was thoroughly entertained. #blackjack21 #booked2021
She never disappoints me. I look forward to digging into this one. #tbrpile
I wanted to love this book and was intrigued by the synopsis. Margaret Atwood is one of my favorite writers. However, I was very disappointed. Many parts were cliched and predictable. It seemed very similar to a show I have seen before. I did not like the plot or character development. I did not think Atwood's writing was as eloquent in this one. It's not a book that will stick with me. So far, this is my least favorite Atwood work.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another great Margaret Atwood book. This one reminded me a little bit of The Giver but with a bit of humor. Atwood really knows how to write disturbing scenarios. In this book she adds humor but that does not make what‘s happening any less gross. I recommend this one if you like dystopian novels. This was my No. 7 #bookspin book.
I‘ve got my #BookSpin list for June ready to go.
This was on the no wait list through Borrow Box in my library app and I love Margaret Atwood but this cut too close bone at the moment so it took me longer than usual to get through this. I will not be seeking out the other books in the series at this time because of that reason. Basically unemployment has hit a high and some parts of the US are left to anarchy so when a company comes in offering hope, people flock to it. 3/5 stars.
⭐⭐⭐
Had higher expectations but Margaret is a great writer so for that it's worth it

How to adjust having to be home all the time. I was used to always being stressful with work and not picking up a book in forever, being home brings some memories of lesser good times but after seven days I'm either adjusting or collapsing. Either way, I finally have time to read! Be safe.

Atwood has done it again! She has created a truly terrifying near future. One with sexbots, unauthorised organ harvesting and neurological sex slavery. But ultimately, this is about choices. What happens when your right to choose is taken away from you? And is it better to be free or secure? I have no idea what this has such low ratings. Yes, all the characters are deplorable and the plot is shocking, but it is such a thought provoking book.
The story starts with Stan and Germaine living in their smelly car because times are tough. They get “accepted” into a utopian society that promises work and homes for all. ‘Nuff said you are in for a ride with this one. Great characters, plot twists and at times...scary.
Yes, maybe it‘s me, but, at the moment, I don‘t seem to choose books I like. Or characters that I can relate to.
This one: Yawn 🥱‼️
Is it really by highly praised queen of creepy, almost-real, dystopian stories Margaret Atwood❓🤔
It‘s booooring. I don‘t like any of the characters and at slightly > page 100 this seems to be a plot stolen of “1984”, of the “Pleasantville”-film, and of Dave Eggers‘ “The Circle”, maybe.
No captivating rehash. 😟
Seems, I‘m having slight issues with both of my current reads.
This one I really liked – but then something very foreseeable happened. And now I notice that I‘m reluctant picking it back up, even though Margaret Atwood is an author that gets so much love here on Litsy.
Anyway, I‘ll force myself to put my nose back in and hope that the story will raise my interest again.
(It‘s the first time ever I made muffins. They turned out quite well. 😋)
Margaret Atwood is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I love her knack for putting unexpected & twisted spins on dystopian tales. This one was hard to put down and full of wtf?! moments!
I‘m spoofing a bit here. I marked it as “Reading” 👓 – but that‘s only wishful thinking. 😑
I so much wanted to start this today but after brunch I decided to quickly add one sentence to the 6-pages-letter I drafted yesterday.
8 hours later I was _finally_ done.
With the letter and with the list of enclosures that contains of more than one page.
Finally clocked out for the weekend!! My plans include reading the tagged book on the kindle app & drinking this tinnnnyyy bottle of wine from the comfort of my bed. 🍷📚 🛏
Up next. Margaret Atwood has SO many books and I've only ever read The Testaments & The Handmaid's Tale which I really enjoyed. I hope this one will be good after finishing a 5⭐read today. 😬😬😬
This bizarre, disturbing dystopian tale was a great follow-up re-read after the Testaments. Margaret Atwood does totalitarian dystopia very skillfully. I feel like it's hard to say much without spoiling all the wild twists and turns this book takes. Great audiobook!
I'm doing a four day intensive trauma therapy course that requires a lot of trave time on the subway. So grateful for audiobooks! 😍📚
Taking a break between clients to listen to an audiobook and watch the world roll by!
I'm on a Margaret Atwood kick right now so am re-visiting this one via audiobook!
Project TBR 2020: the lowest rated books on my Goodreads want-to-read 😬are these really that bad?
A truly bizarre book, I can honestly say I didn‘t predict any of the plot turns. I still don‘t know how I feel about the ending but I can definitely say it was a huge surprise. The ending was just... very unexpected and I may genuinely have nightmares about it. Not perfect but then I don‘t really like dystopian novels, and I think I enjoyed this about as much as I could enjoy one.

My 3rd audio book ( and #67 in total) this year and absolutely crazy town! It‘s set in a dystopian future where an economic collapse has further separated the have and have not classes. Enterprising individuals create jobs and living accommodations for those down on their luck. Then it goes bat shit crazy with sex robots and face transplants and baby blood infusions. What the hell Margaret! What a ride of a novel
The shame. Thank goodness for audio cleaning/purging/organizing
In that first floor bay, of this charming little bookshop (and home of Propolis imprint) - legend has it Margaret Atwood sat and finished the tagged book. It‘s now the fiction section of the shop - so I went in and soaked up the vibes!
So this was my first Atwood book and I can‘t believe I hadn‘t read any of her books. To be honest I alway thought she wrote scary stuff like Steven king I‘m a wimp. So I was told this is a must read and not scary. Well they were right and I love her books now. I think this was a fantastic one to get started on.
This book is a wild ride! A couple looses everything when the economy tanks badly, and they are living in their car. They hear about a community that is self sufficient, where residents take turns, a month at a time, living in a jail and serving the community, then enjoying a month in the community, like a suburban dream. Then things get crazy.
I loved all the bizarre twists, the mind control and manipulation. Definitely 👍👍.

I can not get enough of Margaret Atwood ❤️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As expected I enjoyed this Atwood audiobook! I was gonna read the hard copy but I‘m glad I went with the audio. I enjoyed that the way it switched from the male reader to the female reader. I enjoyed the way Atwood showed two sides of the story with through the differing perspectives of Stan and Charmaine. This book is dark, kinky, intriguing. A great story with great characters!
The library at the college I work at is getting rid of most of their fiction collection 😟, so we were all free to take any books we wanted 🙂. I was tempted to just pull my car up to the door and open my trunk...but I limited myself to what I could fit in a small box. #24in48 #hour12 #bookshelfie
This book had so much potential but fell short. The characters were shallow and all the sex just didn‘t fit into the story. Big disappointment.
Starting this today. Trying to add a quick read before I start ToG! Anyone ever read this. What did you think? My mom passed his on on to me.
Had no idea what this was about when I downloaded it. You‘d think I might have guessed it‘d be dystopian, given the author. Interesting idea; not sure how I feel about it, though.
A rainy evening with Margaret Atwood. I'm not complaining. 🌧
Un grande NI.
Originale, ben scritto, piuttosto scorrevole,...eppure dispersivo nelle tematiche.

Two from Margaret Atwood that feature #jail prominently in the plot. #readingresolutions @Jess7
#JB mail in this week and some cards ready to go out. Replies to these will be written soon! Thank you @Theshadedbuffalo @JoScho @CoffeeNBooks and thank you @CareBear for the book!! It‘s going to the top of the stack!
This was intriguing and made me want to read more of her books. Original story and darkly funny. The ending was odd though.

My TBR Margaret Atwood that features a #bookheart. It has not received great reviews. What did you think? (The Sky is Everywhere thrown in for good measure 😆) Have a great weekend!
I was only there for 1 night, but I really enjoyed my first time at #HayFestival. I got to see Margaret Atwood in conversation and it was wonderful.
