Case Histories: A Novel | Kate Atkinson

Just re-installed Litsy! Much catching up to do but will start with my picks for #17booklove w/ @jess.how. (Day 1: an author I love) KA is the 8th Wonder of the World. What she dared with plot/character dvpt/chronology in Life After Life blew me away, and I haven't stopped thinking about it, or recommending it, since I read it. I also love the book pictured here and love that I have the rest of the Jackson Brodie books ahead of me still!

HeatherBookNerd Kate Atkinson is the bomb. I have read almost all her books now and Case Histories is my favorite of hers. 7y

Just started this one at my mom's recommendation. Thorpe writes a killer first paragraph. Will keep y'all posted!

My Paperwhite made me a reader again, but I think my kids need to see me reading paper books too. They're not superior, but most devices mean my attention is spread thin, amongst a dozen potential stimuli. And my kids know that. Also, KATE ATKINSON.

Pickpick

First, I LOVE our library's read-down-your-fine option! Second, do any other adults out there want to live in Henry and Mudge's world?

Chessa Cynthia Rylant is so amazing!!! 8y

Soooo good so far. Also kind of devastating. So eager to see where Kate Atkinson will take me. I was late getting on her train - just read Life After Life a few months ago - now I'm ready follow wherever she leads.

Whose Butt? | Kathy Tekiela, Stan Tekiela

Pickpick

I think we bought this at a little roadside gift shop in Great Smoky Mountains National Park - super fun. Probably most appropriate for ages 3-5, but since it says "butt" on every page it may be perfect for your 6-year old too, and maybe his mother.

Mr. Pudgins | Ruth Christoffer Carlsen

Just started this as a read-aloud with my 6-year old. No idea where we picked it up! Written in 1951 - always interesting, in ways sometimes fun and sometimes alarming, to read children's books from so long ago. This one is about (more in comments) -

lisa.moussalli - a pipe smoking slightly magical babysitter. Two chapters in it's holding our attention, is not too heavy on 1950s gender stuff, and is also a reminder - 8y
lisa.moussalli - of a different kind of childhood ("Get on your bike, Johnny, and go down to the grocery store. Buy ten bags of assorted sizes."). Feels like Mary Poppins meets Mrs. Piggle Wiggle meets George the Babysitter. 8y

Love me some plot-thickening! (I don't think this peek is a spoiler, but please let me know if you think otherwise and I'll fix it!)

kerigentrywelch What book is this? 8y
lisa.moussalli @kerigentrywelch Still Life, Louise Penny. The first Chief Inspector Armand Gamache book. Finished it a few days ago and loved it! 8y
kerigentrywelch Oh, NICE! The title alone would not interest me, but this little blurb sure does. 😊 8y
jenniferdoyle I'm reading this right now, too! Really enjoying it! I think the setting is so quaint and am enjoying the interactions between all the characters. 8y
Marangbiti I have three Louise Penny books that I have borrowed from the library right now! 😂 One chapter into still life and I'm really enjoying it. So hopefully I will like them all! 8y
