Excited to finally be reading this! Not that she'd know me, but Mira Jacob was my editor at Babble Voices years ago, and I've been wanting to read this ever since it was released.

Well-ReadNeck Just picked this one up recently! 8y

I love books. I love books about books. I'm not sure that I'm loving this book, though. Going to give it a little more time. Hoping it will begin to charm me.

Finally, a moment to myself where I can enjoy this epic saga. I remember only a little from watching the 1980's mini-series, the book is great so far.

raelaschoenherr I picked this one up after hearing it recommended for people who like Gone With the Wind on What Should I Read Next podcast! 8y
raelaschoenherr Haven't gotten to start it yet, I should add :) 8y
jenniferdoyle @raelaschoenherr WSIRN is what reminded me that I'd always wanted to read this! Love that podcast! 8y
raelaschoenherr Me too! I sometimes let a few episodes stack up because just one isn't enough ☺️ 8y

Just started this and it already there's this feeling of being unfulfilled. Not enough details about how everyone just disappeared since it starts three years after the event. Going to stick with it and see where it goes.

jenniferdoyle One more thing, I really want to watch the show on HBO, but wanted to read the book first. Maybe the show is better? 9y
jeff Really wasn't a fan of the book, so couldn't motivate for the show. Felt unsatisfied with the ending. 9y

This book! It's so good, but so heartbreaking. I feel great anxiety about what is going to happen! Addy can't take much more tragedy and rejection. And what's going to happen to little Sharla?!?

Trying the third book on audio to see if I can get the cultural references a little more easily. I feel oddly compelled to continue this series despite not really loving the first two books.

Just started this on audio and it's read by the author. I really enjoy it when an author reads their own book. I think that since they know the story and characters so intimately, it adds a lot to the telling.

LitHousewife You're in for a wonderful read. My favorite book this year. 9y
jenniferdoyle @LitHousewife You were right, so good! Enjoyed everything about this one. 9y
LitHousewife @jenniferdoyle The scene where the title comes into play punched me in the gut. So good. I hope he'll write another soon 9y
susanw This my book clubs next read. I loved it so much, it was my suggestion. Can't wait to hear everyone else reactions. 9y

I'm only about 60 pages in and if it weren't my bookclub's pick, I'd probably stop reading. Fingers crossed that it gets better.

Their Eyes Were Watching God | Zora Neale Hurston

I'm struggling with the dialect. Can't fly through this book like I do most. I do like the story, though, and feel like I've been plopped right into the middle of Eatonville, FL circa 1935.

tkingsanchez Zora Neale Hurston was an anthropologist, and the study of language and culture are embedded in all of her work. For me, her books are anthropological studies. Their Eyes... is one of my all time favorite books! 9y

I'm listening to the audiobook (the voice is not my favorite), but this book is powerful. I'm going to have to get a copy so that I can underline every sentence.

Currently reading. I didn't read Fangirl first, but I don't think that matters. Fast paced, well-written, but it's so hard not to compare it to Harry Potter.

awesomemeg EEEEK! Cannot wait to hear your thoughts! 9y
jenniferdoyle I really liked it @awesomemeg! I read it based on your glowing review! 9y

This book is nothing like I was expecting. I think that's probably a good thing.
