Well, since I already read some Huxley, I guess I'll revisit this one. Haven't read it since I was 15. I feel like my perspective has shifted since then. Just a tad.
pickThis is a dense one, but does the best job of describing the indescribable I think I've ever read. Far from being full of hippie nonsense, Huxley's essay approaches psychedelics from a deeply objective standpoint, even while accepting the "holiness", "spiritual oneness", whatever you'd like to call it, of his experience. Could do without the pooh-poohing of modern art, though. You're better than that, Huxley.
pickThe fact that I started this book at 10 PM and finished at 5 AM speaks for itself. I can tell already that this series will honour its predecessor and be timely as heck to boot. Bless Philip Pullman for encouraging questioning, reasoning, empathy, and scientific discovery in young readers. Love it.
I really shouldn't impulse buy ebooks, but there's no way I'm not reading this series.
