My husband said this book “was really, really good.” Which is saying a lot, for him! I guess I better read it, too...

Just finished this. As I was reading, I liked it, and some of the twists were pretty good. But the last 3 sentences—WHOA!! That‘s what did it for me: loved it!!

This was a really good gothic mystery that even managed to poke fun at the genre just a bit—in the best way. I liked it quite a bit. It wasn‘t too scary or eerie, the romance was great, and the mystery was solved!

Not the dark gothic supernatural Victorian tale of suspense I was expecting, but a good read nonetheless. An interesting exploration of how peoples' lives intersected and changed over the course of a year--the same year the "Essex Serpent" made an "appearance" in the countryside.

Received an ARC. Not a big fan--the characters acted too "modern" for the setting. If not for that, this would be a pretty good book.

Finished my ARC last night. Great read on a cold winter's day. I loved the historical/Russian folklore element. Highly recommend this one!

This was an atmospheric fairy tale that kept me entranced enough to read in one sitting. Alys is a strong heroine worth rooting for. The author creates a world full of superstition, fear, and otherworldliness, that is at the same time both ethereal and earthy. This is a captivating book about coming to terms with one's true self, and the dangers of ignorance, close-mindedness, and giving in to fear and hate. I would highly recommend this book.
