Amazing. Reminder that we can't run from ourselves/can't escape our minds

Unfortunately, my copy got ruined in the rain.

Fun, easy read. Still kind of wild to think that fan fiction with the names changed is such a viable genre. Found on the laundromat bookshelf, and tbh I understand not wanting to display this one on your home shelf, even though I already told all my friends that I read it

Good old dreariness with an unhappy ending. Read over the dark cold winter

I watched the show before reading this, and it hasnt taken anything away from the experience thus far. Tevis's writing is so focused--it's easy to get drawn in to Beth's world completely. Also, his background character descriptions are fantastically precise. The "embarrassed" girl from chess club, etc. Loving it so far

marleed Like you, I saw the series first. I actually believe it enhanced my reading experience because I‘m very chess challenged. I loved both! 3y
re-be @marleed Agreed! As a chess noob it's a lot easier for me to digest the chess talk when I can see it written down, 3y
