This was lovely. I cannot put into words how beautiful, sweet, and just damn LOVELY it was. Tied for my favorite Maryland BEST book.

The second half of this I really enjoyed. The main character got on my nerves, and the info dumps were TOOOOOOOO MUCH. Still, I liked it, kept going, and have to continue due to the cliffhanger!
A local Middletown author, which is awesome!! This was a sweet, quick read. I feel like it follows common tropes (I was especially reminded of The War That Saved My Life), but it was enjoyable.
I wanted to love this. History, women's history, and murder?? Those are basically my favorite things.
Except no. This was so bad. My view of the characters were inane, confusingly pitiful, and dumb. The plot was non-existent. The details about history were just plain bad (there wasn't an organized police force in 1791!).
The history major in me is weeping and rolling my eyes.
Cover is lovely, though, and the beetle is a nice touch.
Jenny Lawson is a goddamn national treasure.
I really enjoyed this. The reporting was great with lots of details and not a lot of spoilers early on. The writing got to be a bit too flowery for me, at times. And the descriptions of anxiety...I get it, but it seemed unneeded.
I love this series. The mythology works well, the feminism is on point, the nerdy references are amazing. Cannot wait for the next book and it's only been out a week.
The plot of this was magnificent. The weaving of history, magic, and fairy tales was unexpected and perfect. A little wordy at times (especially in the first half for me) and the characters were meh to me, but so, so worth reading the whole thing. Magical.
Such a lovely book! The focus on sisterhood and the growth of the women was wonderful. An easy read to get sucked into and hard to escape from at the end.
My final MD BEST book! Made it with less than 24 hours to go. I appreciate the story and writing style, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The narrator as a wolf was really interesting, especially the way some things were described (but never actually stated what they "really" are). Also appreciate the facts and bibliography at the end.
I expected to just flip through this to get the idea of it for MD BEST. But no, I had to read the whole thing. There was so much packed into it, and nostalgia, and sadness, and it was wonderful.
Did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Man, it was beautiful and powerful and wow. Read it in a day.
Another MD BEST, another father MIA. Enjoyed this one. An interesting look at who someone is and family. Quick read.
Eh. Third MD BEST book of the week. Enjoyed the story, although most of the characters were unlikable and Mollie was possibly the stupidest girl ever. How many times does she fall for the same thing? Five????
Another for MD BEST.
Is it a rule that middle grade book fathers need to leave now??
Anyway. I appreciate the idea behind this, because micro-agressions are basically middle school life. But it felt like everything got wrapped up so nicely. Just REALLY tell them no! Community discussion! And then make friends and karate together? No. Maybe it's me again hating middle school or teaching 5th. But kids are nasty and don't flip that fast.
Quick read for MD BEST. I enjoyed it and the characters were multi-faceted. The whole idea of restorative justice is pretty cool. Definitely some moments where I felt the characters were a bit too mature/not annoying middle school teen enough? But I hated middle school, so that may color my view. Overall, enjoyed.
ETA: Husband ruined this for me. It is definitely too rosy. Still. Not sad I read it?
Art was super cute. But the story just seemed really disjointed, and the characters were...super chaotic? Kind of like my d&d group's characters. Goro was my fave, just because. Not a bad bored at work read, but wouldn't take the time to read it at home.
I loved the first one. This one was more meh, lots of new stuff, lots of things left unanswered. Why emojis in the text??? Whyyyyyyyyyy.
