This was one of the best memoirs I've ever read and I enjoyed every minute of it. Alex Trebek was the first celebrity death I'd ever cried over and I mourned again when I finished the book.

I chose this for book club because I'd heard a range of opinions about it. Controversial books always make for good discussions and this was no exception.
The story itself is not a happy one, but it is a testament to the determination and devotion of a mother for her child. That part resonated with me deeply.
I love Betty White, but this book is not a must read. It's full of fun little stories and anecdotes, however, I wasn't blown away by them. Perfect if you're looking for a light, easy read though!
I've been meaning to read this forever. RIP RBG!
This is going to be a difficult, but necessary read.
I loved it! The prologue made me think of Flowers In The Attic, but I was way off. It twists and turns, keeps you guessing and second-guessing. As an avid fan of mystery/thriller/suspense novels, I was able to figure out some things and got others completely wrong. I'm definitely going to be reading Ms Jewell's other work. If you like Ruth Ware and Kate Morton, you'll enjoy this book.
"'There are 7,777 rituals in Aluk. People left because it got complicated.' Catholicism hardly seems the place to go for fewer complicated rituals, but there you go."
This was so hard to put down, despite the horrific setting. The prose is so well-written; the words flow like water. It's a love story, hauntingly beautiful and full of hope.
"A girl always remembers the first corpse she shaves." - Great opening line!
