Here is a brand new collection (2016 release) of ten stories, each with a distinct flavor. #india #diversebookbloggers

Two of my favourites in the collection are Cotton (where a lady discovers that she is stuffed with cotton) and Sandalwood (where a husband confesses to his wife after 17 years of marriage that he is homosexual and leaves her to live with his partner. He takes his kids with him)

The Answers: A Novel | Catherine Lacey
post image
Pickpick

The Answers by Lacey is about an interesting 'Girlfriend experiment ' where a group of highly paid young women are assigned the different tasks of a Girlfriend (Emotional, mundane, maternal etc).

The writing is fast paced and there is sarcasm that makes one laugh. There is strong commentary about love, the rich and the poor and whether love can be quantified

MyBookBath I would really hate to be assigned the angry or emotional girlfriend! 🙅🏻 7y
MyBookBath Sounds entertaining! 7y
catebutler How interesting! Quite the experiment!! 7y

thebooksatchel @MyBookBath It was interesting. Imagine! If you are the Anger gf, you get paid to throw things and to get angry. Haha. Emotional is too much of a burden, true 7y
thebooksatchel @catebutler Isn't it? Ultimately the book just says that love is messed up whether you are rich or poor 7y
MyBookBath Yes, imagine that! 😜 7y

Mr. Tibbits's Catholic School | A. N. Wilson, Julian Fellowes, Ysenda Maxtone Graham
post image
Pickpick

Ysenda Maxtone Graham's Mr. TIBBIT'S CATHOLIC SCHOOL is about a private school in South Kensington. It gives an accurate picture of the life of boys enrolled in such schools. The book focuses on an eccentric cast of teachers and the various headmasters who worked in the school.

Overall a delightful read. However there are some racist comments that might have to be read taking into account the time when such sentiments existed

Sophoclessweetheart Oh! I love Slighty Foxed editions. 😍😍 6y

Power | Naomi Alderman
post image
Mehso-so

The whole setting where women get the power to conduct electricity is pretty scary. The writing was engrossing but I would have loved it more if it wasn't a direct reversal of gender roles in the present world.

This novel won the Baileys Prize for Women's fiction this year and might be made into a TV show soon. A TV show with women having special powers sounds cool.

pardonmywritings Hmm that is interesting. Kinda what Faroukh said, that some people view feminism as an extinction of men... 7y
thebooksatchel @pardonmywritings I would have liked it more if women were ruling in a different way; maybe bad maybe good; but different 7y
oasisgirlmd What!! This sounds downright creepy!!! 7y

Effi Briest | Theodor Fontane
post image
Pickpick

Story- child bride named Effi married to a much older man and is befriended by a womanizer

Strengths:
Excellent characters sketches.
The settings speak volumes about the situation described. When Effi is lonely and scared the house she lives in has the vibes of a haunted house.

The womanizer does not play a large role in the novel; rather it is Effi who wants to reclaim her marriage. She isn't shallow but does mistakes because of her age.

Story of a boy who desperately wants trousers because nobody in his class wears half pants anymore. Fast paced and reads like a movie.

Purple Hibiscus: A Novel | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
post image
Pickpick

A strong debut by #chimamanda . I love how beautifully the flaws and imperfections in characters are portrayed. It is a coming of age story mixed with religious and family sentiments. The ending was a bit rushed . But a good read.

Americanah | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Pickpick

One of my best reads of 2015. Basically Americanah is a love story. But it holds elements of race, what it means to be black in America and the story of an immigrant in America.

5/5 stars for this powerful novel from Adichie. Discussion live on IG now

read_diverse_books This one's definitely a 5/5! I can't wait for your review of Half of a Yellow Sun on your blog. 8y
