Starfish | Akemi Dawn Bowman

I can not say enough good things about this book! Kiko is a Japanese American girl who suffers from anxiety. Kiko lives with her 2 brothers & their mother (a stereotypical blue eyed blonde all American girl) who is a bullying Narcissist who dismisses her children‘s feelings while seeking validation from them.
Kiko dreams of being an artist, of going to art school, of being enough.
Starfish is beautiful. I devoured it & recommend it to everyone.

The Girl in Red | Christina Henry

Pickpick

Christina Henry nails it again in this Red Riding Hood retelling.
Red is a bi, amputee, POC trying to survive and make it to Grandma‘s house after a virus wipes out a huge chunk of the population.
While Red tries her hardest to keep herself and her family alive, we see how people act when the rules of society crumble away.

Not Even Bones | Rebecca Schaeffer

I loved this book! From the moment I saw the cover I knew I had to read Not Even Bones.
The villains are monsters and the good guys are villains.
Nita‘s mother murders “unnaturals” and Nita dissects them to sell the body parts. But she doesn‘t dissect friends. But it all changes when Nita finds the line she won‘t cross and saving a life could cost hers.
Now to wait for book 2!
