Ranging from the 19th to the 20th centuries, this wonderfully wide-ranging and enjoyable anthology includes Poe, Chekhov, Joyce, Kafka, Faulkner, Pirandello, Mann, and other major writers of world literature.

Mehso-so

I‘d argue this US and Eurocentric collection is hardly the “world‘s” best. It isn‘t diverse in any way (only 3 of the 20 stories are written by women and there are few authors of color). The stories are definitely canonical and anyone with a large number of English classes in their background will have already read most of these. Ozzie has mostly let Gatsby be my reading companion but he‘s in it for these short stories.

#septphotochallenge today is #shortstories - I don't have many collections of short stories but the few I do, I use again and again as examples of craft & structure in a short format; being able to express emotion/thought in under 100 pages takes skill. #somethingforsept #somethingforseptember
