How Fast Can You Run
How Fast Can You Run: A Novel Based on the Life of 'Lost Boy of Sudan' Michael Majok Kuch | Harriet Levin Millan
2 posts | 8 to read
This novel begins with the second Sudanese Civil War. It is based on the experience of the main character, Michael Majok Kuch, who I met as part of a One Book One Philadelphia Writing Project conceived by Marie Field of the Free Library of Philadelphia. The book is based on real historical events. While many of the events capture Michael's experience exactly as he told them to me over a two-year period, some time sequences were altered to make the narrative arc more compelling. In order to respect the privacy of the people in Michael's life, some of the characters are changed. All the names are fictitious except for Michael's and his mother's.

Hey peeps, I wanted to let you know about this book. Michael Majok Kuch was at our local indie bookstore tonight to talk to us about it and his story. Separated from his family at a very young age he and a group of boys walked across countries to reach the refugee camps. Terrible thing happened to some of them along the way. Turns out Michael's mum and some of his brothers all live in Brisbane, so it was wonderful to see them all together.

Michelle_mck Wonderful! Will pick this up 8y
Sue @Michelle_mck Apparently Avid Reader had to import it especially for the event, so I'm not sure if your usual local will have it. And thanks @shawnmooney - I can always rely on you for an excellent book rec 😘 8y
