City of Strife
City of Strife | Claudie Arseneault
Isandor, City of Spires.
A hundred and thirty years have passed since Arathiel last set foot in his home city. Isandor hasnt changedbickering merchant families still vie for power through eccentric shows of wealthbut he has. His family is long dead, a magical trap has dulled his senses, and he returns seeking a sense of belonging now long lost.
Arathiel hides in the Lower City, piecing together a new life among in a shelter dedicated to the homeless and the poor, befriending an uncommon trio: the Shelters rageful owner, Larryn, his dark elven friend Hasryan, and Cal the cheese-loving halfling. When Hasryan is accused of Isandor's most infamous assassination of the last decade, what little peace Arathiel has managed to find for himself is shattered. Hasryan is innocent he thinks. In order to save him, Arathiel may have to shatter the shreds of home hed managed to build for himself.
Arathiel could appeal to the Dathiriia noble elven family who knew him before he disappearedbut he would have to stop hiding, and they have battles of their own to fight. The idealistic Lord Dathirii is waging a battle of honour and justice against the cruel Myrian Empire, objecting to their slavery, their magics, and inhumane treatment of their apprentices. One he could win, if only he could convince Isandors rulers to stop courting Myrians favours for profit.
In the ripples that follow Diels opposition, friendships shatter and alliances crumble. Arathiel, the Dathirii, and everyone in Isandor fights to preserve their homes, even if the struggle changes them irrevocably.

Okay, I think I'm going to try this #BookSpin thing! It was sort of alarming how easy it was to come up with a list of 20 books I want to read but probably wouldn't otherwise get around to anytime soon. I've been meaning to read some of them for years, and there's only a little bit of overlap with my goodreads to-read list 😳

Thanks to @TheAromaofBooks for hosting this challenge!

BookmarkTavern Ah! Le Guin! Everything I have ever read by her I have loved! I hope you enjoy The Dispossessed! 5y
effani @ozma.of.oz I love LeGuin too! I've never gotten around to The Dispossessed for whatever reason, so I'm excited to pick it up if that's the number that comes up. 5y
TheAromaofBooks Thank you so much for joining!! I'll be sure to tag you on Sunday with the lucky number!! 😁 5y

Do you ever read at the gym?! I'm starting City of Strife, the first book in a political fantasy trilogy starring an all LGBTQIAP+ cast! #DiverseBooks #DiverseBookBloggers

read_diverse_books I didn't know people read in the gym! You mean actually reading text? I could manage an audiobook, but not reading text. Lol. good on you for being a multi tasker! 8y
gaming4justice @read_diverse_books I read when I cardio usually. I used to listen to music but I found I can knock out 4-5 chapters at the gym! More time for reading :) 8y
WOCreads Sounds fantastic, enjoy!👌 Ha no idea how you manage to read at the Gym, I get motion sickness from reading on the treadmill 🙈 8y
gaming4justice @Ifyoucanreadthis_Bina it has definitely been something I have trained myself to do. While I do not get motion sickness, the first couple times very challenging to concentrate. I don't treadmill very often and stick to bikes & ellipticals. 8y
WOCreads That's a pretty cool skill tho!😃 I could go for an audiobook but most gyms here have the music turned up too high. 8y
