Pickpick

Standing apart from the other novels in the American Noir Collection, I Married a Dead Man begins as a melodrama, waiting until late in the third act to show its dark side. Woolrich is least successful when he attempts to play with language. But his experiments with form keep things interesting while the story, though a bit implausible, and the tension are where he proves to be at his best, and justifies its place in this collection.

This was a five-star read for me and I tagged it as "thriller" in LibraryThing, so it is my choice for #marchmadness day 1: favourite thriller/crime novel.

(This would also have worked for day 31, creepy cover.)

I borrowed this book from a LibraryThing friend a couple of years ago but haven't had a chance to return it as we live in different cities. (She has one of my books, though, so at least we both have collateral 😉) It is excellent. Highly recommended. #booktober #creepycover
