Pickpick

🎧 Christian Black is a violent youth on probation from shoving a pencil in a student‘s eye. His younger twin brothers died from the virus that is slowly incapacitating his parents. It‘s just Christian & his older brother Levi left to take care of their dwindling family.

Laws are in flux in the 2nd year of the H5N1 pandemic when Christian is visited by a bounty hunter.

This novella is Christian‘s origin story.

Solid beginning! ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/3u

Pickpick

I‘m a big fan of Bobby Adair and can‘t believe I hadn‘t read this yet. I have read the follow up (and will do so again) but I believe it‘s fairly stand alone & set a bit in the future from this one. This was quick, but a great lead in to a new post-apocalyptic story. The main character is a teen & I think that‘s the perfect age for the shit to hit the fan - you think you know everything & are invincible.

Mehso-so

Probably not the smartest pick in view of the recent coronavirus epidemic, but TBH, it had been so long since I bought this that I didn‘t remember *what* exactly I had on hand— and so I went in blind!
It‘s actually a short (150 pp) YA story about a teenager trying to survive with his family in a future Houston where prion disease is spreading on pandemic scales.
Nothing new or particularly interesting enough to warrant getting the next-in-series
