"The Transformation" starts with the typical Shellian framework narrative where the narrator states that he feels compelled to tell his story despite swearing never to do so. The narrators story begins with the perfunctory descriptions of his family and his reckless behavior. What is there so fearful as the expectation of evil tidings delayed? ... Misery is a more welcome visitant when she comes in her darkest guise and wraps us in perpetual black, for then the heart no longer sickens with disappointed hope.

Pickpick

A short book of three stories by Shelley from publisher Hesperus, who put out some nice volumes of classic works.

As well as the title story, it also has "The Mortal Immortal" and "The Evil Eye". The first two are supernatural gothic stories, with themes of decadence and selfishness, of loneliness and despair, the latter a convoluted historical revenge story. Shelley delivers some surprises in these tales, which didn't always go as I'd expected.
