I love this series. This was book 2, but I am definitely interested in book 3. Three women followed through a version of ww2 where women were allowed to fight.

Alternative history where women could enlist in the army in WWII. I enjoyed the second in this series, even if the ending was a little sappy. But the war is still not over, so I will definitely keep reading to book 3.

The second in Michael Grant's BATTLE LINES SERIES is a thoughtful, action-packed YA read set in an alternative universe where women were conscripted to fight in World War II and although I'm still not wholly convinced that he needs that premise to explore all of the issues that he's interested in, the book does challenge gender assumptions and is thought provoking on racism and violence.

Absolutely brilliant. Far better than the first book, and the first book was VERY good.

I loved this even more than Front Lines!! This book is far more raw, gritty and mean. Michael Grant didn't gloss over racism, sexism or the more graphic aspects of war. I am completely invested in the stories of Rainy, Frangie, Rio and Jenou and can't wait for the next book.
I strongly recommend this series for adults or teens - brilliantly done!

This alternate history of WWII with women at the front lines is so well written with such engaging characters that it was almost impossible to put down.

I made the mistake of starting this book this morning. The housework will probably not get done - the book is too darn good!

Phenomenal. I almost don't have words for how excellent this book, this series is. Grant doesn't shy away from the racism and misogyny of the time, nor does he soften the stark realities of war. These are not romanticized stories, they are dark, sometimes triumphant, slogs through rain and mud and countryside, gritty and beautiful and heartbreaking. If the third book were available I'd read all night to finish it.

At the Columbus Metropolitan Library and I am loving it. It is so beautiful and everyone here is so passionate about books. It makes my heart soar to be here.

Snort. It's official, Rio is my favorite. If you like historical fiction with a twist, go go go and read these books. These are a #blameitonlitsy read for me, I'd never heard of them before someone on here talked about Front Lines, but I cannot stop reading.

I'm in absolute love with all these girls (and yes, they are girls here; Rio is barely 18, enlisted with an altered birth certificate, Jenou is around 19, as is Frangie, and I don't know exactly how old Rainey is but maybe she's 20 or 21).

This week's book haul. All things I'm excited to read, and I'm wondering if I have time to read both Front Lines and Silver Stars AND still be able to reread Book of the Unnamed Midwife before Book of Etta comes out on Tuesday. Thankfully my partner can read again after successful cataract surgery, so fingers crossed for lots of reading time.
