Groovy Joe: Ice Cream & Dinosaurs (Groovy Joe #1)
Groovy Joe: Ice Cream & Dinosaurs (Groovy Joe #1) | Eric Litwin
5 posts | 6 read | 1 to read
Groovy Joe was living the dream. He had a spoon and tub of doggy ice cream. And he started to sing: Love my doggy ice cream! Love my doggy ice cream! Eric Litwin, author of the bestselling and beloved Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, and bestselling artist Tom Lichtenheld, illustrator of Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site, have created a captivating new canine character who will groove his way into readers' hearts and have them grooving and giggling all the while. In his debut adventure, Groovy Joe faces three roaring dinosaurs hungry for his doggy ice cream! Oh no! But Joe knows just what to do and soon enough he has them all sharing while moving and singing along. Signature rhyme, repetition, and musical writing style, combined with wild and witty illustrations come together to create an unforgettable new character who embodies positivity, creativity, and kindness. Groovy Joe is here, ready to get groovy!

If I accomplish nothing else this weekend at least I got the stories/songs on the classroom iPad now. Groovy Joe has quickly become a new favorite in the classroom & we love the way Eric Litwin reads his stories.

This book was okay! It (of course) reminds me of "Pet the Cat". I believe that it teaches children about size, how to share and how to turn a negative situation into a positive one - all in a subliminal way. The next time I read this book I'll try to find the song that goes along with it (if there is one) - maybe then I'll like it more! #ucflae3414su17

Angiepuc Eric Litwin is my author I'm doing my book boost about! I love all his Pete the Cat books and I'm excited to read this one (since I'm a dog lover) I also enjoy how all his books have a lesson to be taught. 7y
DrSpalding I agree with your so so comment. Litwin is famous for Pete the Cat and I'm not sure that Groovy Joe can compete with that beloved character. Time will tell.🐈🐕 7y

Groovy Joe is an animal fantasy book written by Eric Litwin and Tom Lichtenheld. This book would be a great read aloud book because it is very interactive and repetitive. It has a great message about sharing, which can help in any classroom. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/blog-posts/shari-carter/2017/Teaching-With-G... #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding Students that enjoy Pete will like Joe too! 🐾 8y
Rachelgoff This is definitely a great book to share with students! It is important for students to learn how to share, and books are a creative way to make students want to do this! 8y
krystag The lesson behind the book is a great one to share! The illustrations and song involved in these books are what make students love these characters so much! My nieces are huge fans of Joe and Pete, the books they always ask for! 8y

This modern (animal) fantasy is a great book for EL students because the illustrations are very telling of what is happening in the story. There is also a lot of rhyming and repetition. This is a very comical story for K-2 students! I would recommend this. http://groovyjoestories.scholastic.com/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding I just received this as a gift! Same author as Pete the Cat, Eric Litwin! 8y
Riley.Clayson Love that it's great for EL's 8y

I had the pleasure of seeing Eric Litwin singing and dancing to the delight of many children today at the WNY Children's Book Expo.
