Tom's Afraid of the Dark | Beth Robbins, Anne Millard

This would be a good book for kindergartens. It is a series called It's Okay! All of these books are reassuring children that the dark, the doctors, and even the first day of school isn't as scary as they think. This book reflects on how the dark isn't scary and has lots of good vocabulary. http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/family-ties-makin... #UCFLAE3414sp17

Wow! I love this nonfiction book. It is one of a series about healthy eating. This book is all about the different types of meats, fish, and eggs. It tells the reader about all of the benefits of eating each different type. It also tells how to have a balanced meal. Since there are big words it even provides a glossary! Http://healthyfridge.org/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

AmberC That's a great book for children to learn about healthy eating and the recipes on the link might be fun to incorporate into a class celebration. 8y
DrSpalding A portion of the resource was under construction however I do like the idea of exposing students to healthy eating options and COOKING in the classroom! 8y
sarahs Love this resource. We need more books like these to help students understand the importance of being healthy! 8y
Riley.Clayson Childhood obesity is definitely a problem, hopefully this book will help give kids a better understanding at a young age 8y

Creepy, Crawly Caterpillars | Margery Facklam
post image

This non-fiction book would be amazing for a science class! It has fantastic pictures with tons and tons of factual content. There is a table of contents in the front. This would make it really easy for students to get into groups based off of the caterpillar they choose. Then each group could tell the class about their caterpillar! http://www.childfun.com/themes/animals/creepy-crawlies/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding Agreed that this would be a wonderful supplement to a science lesson. You could read The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛 too! 8y

Shades of Black is a nonfiction text. It celebrates all of the different colors or shades of black that a person could be. This would be a great read aloud book in a diverse school. This book at the end lets us know it was made for a class in Queens, New York. Www.educationworld.com/a_tsl/archives/01-1/lesson0037.shtml #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding We need to find out how Myles is related to Andrea, Brian and Jerry, all of whom are award winning children's authors/illustrators. I guessing he is Andrea's son! 8y

This modern (animal) fantasy is a great book for EL students because the illustrations are very telling of what is happening in the story. There is also a lot of rhyming and repetition. This is a very comical story for K-2 students! I would recommend this. http://groovyjoestories.scholastic.com/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding I just received this as a gift! Same author as Pete the Cat, Eric Litwin! 8y
