Prompt: Washington's Birthday
“He was a boy who had a cold and bossy mother, a great athlete and horseback rider, and the very first president of the brand-new United States.”
I don't think making light of a slave owner is useful in children's literature.
I do not like books that depict our founding fathers because they never tell the whole story, like at all, and while I understand this is a children's book, I feel it is unhelpful and counterproductive to teach any information if you're not gonna tell the whole truth. We glorify our founding fathers and I dont think we should
I love using these biographies with my kiddo! I always learn something too and we enjoy talking about the lives of these historical figures.
This B by Brad Meltzer is wonderfully written and teaches students about who exactly George Washington is besides being the 1st president of the United States. This is an informative book and is good for a RA.
EL strategy 6 can be used for this book; teachers can test if students understand the book throughout the read aloud. UDL strategy 5.1 can be used for this book as students are able to watch the video of the read aloud.

I love American history and it‘s because my teachers taught it in an engaging way. Hopefully by using this book, kids will think the same.
I think it‘s super important to learn about American history , and this book is a great way to do it at a young age. The language is simple, and the book is informative yet engaging.
President Apprentice needs this book, and I need to step away from Twitter because I‘ve snarked enough about this headline. #unpresidented
Who Was George Washington is a great biography to have in a classroom library! The books in this series are very straight forward and provide children with so many facts about a particular individual who has made an impact on the world!
This B book on the life of George Washington by Roberta Edwards is part of a NY Times Bestselling Series. The illustrations makes this an easy read, great for teaching social studies concepts! It provides readers with a map of George Washington‘s farm in Mount Vernon, and even information on his false teeth! Can be used for IR and PR for research purposes. #ucflae3414sp18
