I don't think making light of a slave owner is useful in children's literature.

I do not like books that depict our founding fathers because they never tell the whole story, like at all, and while I understand this is a children's book, I feel it is unhelpful and counterproductive to teach any information if you're not gonna tell the whole truth. We glorify our founding fathers and I dont think we should

This B by Brad Meltzer is wonderfully written and teaches students about who exactly George Washington is besides being the 1st president of the United States. This is an informative book and is good for a RA.
EL strategy 6 can be used for this book; teachers can test if students understand the book throughout the read aloud. UDL strategy 5.1 can be used for this book as students are able to watch the video of the read aloud.

fquadri This website will lead teachers to a video of Brad Meltzer himself dressed up as George Washington, conducting a read aloud. Teachers can incorporate this video when teaching a historical lesson on George Washington. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-qT3p_U6Sg

DrSpalding I enjoy this series of books and I really like this author. I have read many of his adult novels. He writes political crime novels that are engaging. Use these biographies in your future elementary classroom. 5y

I love American history and it‘s because my teachers taught it in an engaging way. Hopefully by using this book, kids will think the same.

President Apprentice needs this book, and I need to step away from Twitter because I‘ve snarked enough about this headline. #unpresidented

blank His face is literally on the most circulated piece of American currency. I could go on about all the other ways he's remembered/memorialized, but since you went to elementary school I'm sure you already know. 🙄 6y
Texreader Yikes!! Unbelievable 6y
kaleidoscope.reader No President is perfect. The pressure must be insurmountable. As an Army Wife and American, he is still my President. He is my husbands Commander in Chief. Trump uses his ability to stir up controversy as a means for attention. Hence why I respectfully stay silent when he tweets. Lol I don't like to add to his agenda. 6y

Who Was George Washington is a great biography to have in a classroom library! The books in this series are very straight forward and provide children with so many facts about a particular individual who has made an impact on the world!

JessicaC This book was written by Roberta Edwards and discussing who George Washington was and the impact he has on this country and what it came to be. This is a great resource for IR and could be used in several different ways in the classroom. This is a website that goes more into depth with who he was as an individual and a leader of this country. https://edsitement.neh.gov/lesson-plan/george-washington-precedent-president. ⬇️ 7y
JessicaC UDL 4.2 would work perfectly with this idea, because it would optimize access to tools and assistive technologies. For ESOL 2,4,6,42. 7y

Caitlin4 The Who is/was series is a great tool. They could be used in a variety of ways and give really good background about different people. Lessons could be done about presidents, famous leaders, sports stars or many more. 7y
