I‘m fascinated by space and learning about it, and I feel like a lot of kids, especially girls, shy away from that topic because they think it‘s too hard or not girly, so I would encourage kids to read this.

This story tells the true story of the author growing up during the Civil Rights Movement in Ohio. This is a great book to have on hand, especially in an Ohio classroom, to kids so that they can see what others went through before them. The struggles the author goes through are still relatable to present day life.
My mom got me this book when I got braces because I had horrible teeth, but I also had braces for a long time. It actually really helped me get through that time period and I remember rereading the book several times.
This is a comic book showing a girls struggles with braces and insecurity about how she looks. It‘s a true story based off the author and does such a good job at narrating how it feels at that age. It‘s perfect for 4th-5th grade/ middle school girls.

I love this book! I got it as a kindergarten graduation present that was meant to be a reference when I graduated high school. I read it once I graduated and it choked me up because the message is so inspiring, more-so than young children understand their first time reading it.
This book describes life in simple and fun terms for children while being inspiring. As an adult looking at it, it‘s very heartwarming and gives a sense of nostalgia, while to children it provokes excitement. The rhyme scheme is very fun and uplifting.
